My hats off to all spearo's that hunt in cold water. Well done! :thumbsup2: your comment about the color of your suit - Black vtsus Camo made sense when I stopped to think about it. Black suit = Sea Lion look alike, number one predator of Salmon. Interesting.

Agree with everyone - beautiful work, craftsmanship, detail. Just beautiful. Kudos :thumbsup2:

As Stickum said "far" is relative. And relative to Montana or North Texas - you live on the beach. :cool2:
Welcome.

Welcome Saam. I was in your country many years ago (1965) and it is an interesting country with long history. I visited Daniel's Tomb and a new Dam being built for Hydro- electric power but it was many years ago and I don't remember the names but I was in a maritime port on the Euphrades River entering from the Persian Gulf.
How is the diving in the Persian Gulf and what type of fish do you have?
Welcome and hope to see some interesting photos (maybe from the women's beach) sorry American humor :nono:

Very nice. I was following your build of your great Blue Water speargun- beautiful work:thumbsup2: maybe I missed it - but have you used it yet? How is it besides a beauty?

Great thread and very interesting. Thanks - had no idea Panama had a spearfishing stamp. Some really interesting ones. Nice find.

Hola Oscar,
Mi respeto para ti. Espero seguir buceando a tu edad.
Dive safe and clear waters!
-
Personally - catch and release would be MY decision.

Cheers Don.

The range is not very good with a Pranger but if you can sneak up on your target they rarely let go if you hit them in the head. They are also fantastic at landing Flathead.
Well done mate - curious what is their length? I like the grove you made for the hands at the head of the guns. Nice!:thumbsup2:

Oscar, the specs you provided don't help me answer your question. As a rule I cut the bands to %300 elongation, using a very short wishbone (it is then up to the individual user to shorten them if they want more punch. But %300 is relative to the band stretch, which I measure similar to what Lunker Buster posted, except to the tab closest to the mech, on the shaft that's coming with the gun. For the stated band stretch I measure to the mech mouth. Because theoretically that's where someone could put a notch or a tab if they wanted to, and that's the maximum band stretch possible with the gun. Going by this last method, the band stretch of the 120 is.. surprise! 120cm 130 and 140 also indicate the band stretch for those spearguns.
I gotcha. Wishbone to last tab is what I. Was calling pull/stretch for lack of better measurement but thinking more, analyzing your and Lunker posted, agree my measurement really doesn't mean much.
Thinking more about this - probably irrelevant anyway since they are very different style guns and shaft dia is probably another factor.
Guess I will just have to buy yours and test them in real life :laughing:
Thanks for trying :). Really nice looking guns very tempting.

Oscar, what is your way of measuring band pull?
Already owning two American style teak guns of similar size, Riffe midhandle 50 and 55 inch (130 cm = 51 inch) approximately, was trying to get a feel/comparison (on paper) of the power/shooting range and thought knowing the bands and stretch would give me an approximation.
For example my 50 inch uses9/16 x 24 inch (61 cm bands (3) with a stretch of 39 inches or 99 cm - while my 55 inch uses 3 9/16 x 26 inch (66 cm) with a stretch of 44 inches or 112 cm.
Or am I trying to compare apples and oranges? I havent handled aEuro style gun sine the 60's and 70's and curious of the comparison. The Spearfining spearguns are great looking so .............. Rationalizing :nono: or is that justifying? :confused1:

For full frontal pics and tapers for now I urge you to visit the bikini thread
Medium size reel on the 110 and large on the 120.
OK but I've already worn out my keyboard visiting the bikini thread but if you insist ..... :laughing3:
Dan what are the band lengths and band pull (lentgh) on the current 120 and the future 130 and 140's?
Thanks - beautiful guns.

NOTE TO SELF: DONT MOUNT THE F'in Camera on the back of the gun then dive into a cave with 0 vis and shoot a 12 pound dog and fight it till out of air!! RESULT= no camera, no spear BUT I got the fish :@
OK, I agree with Dan & Hank. There is a story imbedded in this one (lose spear and camera but got the fish) and we would loooooovvvvveeeeeee to hear the details!!! :@
Standing by when you get Internet again :thumbsup2:

It does look great. I grew up in Panama and we used Corvina cut in about the same size as yours, but we only used Key lime juice, very little salt, and chopped Habanero peppers and that's all. I have had cevichi in Mexico, Costa Rica, and several other styles, BUT The BEST ceviche I have ever had was in Peru. They use flounder I think, cut into slices, use key lime juice, sliced onion, and make it in front of you and serve it immediately. Reallllly good: oh they also serve it with corn on the cob on the side. Yummy.
-
Hey Dan - I like it and ............. I can use during duck season too :laughing3:
But seriously like Nate - I like your Pacific/Green Camo better and hope it is available when I order later this year.
-
Great collection - thanks for sharing. Maybe a story or two to go with these - when you have some time.

Little background here...
I was in the midst of rotating home when this one hit. I arrived back on US soil Memorial day and was home two days later.
Two days later is when The Monster landed. About half a mile as the crow flies from our home. Oddly enough, I was rear ended in OKC that afternoon which totaled the vehicle . About 3 hours later, we were hiding from the big bastard ( 2.6 miles across) that hit the east side of our town . First tornado I've been through that had me scared. But all in all, we're all safe and aside from needing a new roof , we're intact.
Love to all my friends here,
Aaron, Alissa and Aeryn Brooke
Glad you are home and sustained little damage - little is relative to the really bad stuff. I was teaching at the FAA academy when the monster approached Moore (just south f academy) and took my class into the underground tunnels. Bad ass storm and worse part was losing the kids in the demolished school - but could have been worse. Bad sxxt. Welcome back!

Welcome to the forum Oscar.
I believe I've seen that jewfish picture floating around for a few years. Cool to have the background story.
While the plentiful fish and lobster are probably a thing of the past, one consolation is that spearfishing gear has improved greatly. A good thing for older guys who want to be as comfortable as they can be.
Thanks Dan - Had no idea my old photo had made the rounds - internet is what it is I guess.
But yes - Which means I'll be ordering one of your 5 mm wetsuits when I return from Panama (if I have any money left over) and before trying to head to La Paz in April/May. Old guys need to stay warm
