Having a nice cigar at the end of day after being in the water all day is something I look forward to. That and a nice 7&7 and telling fish stories is what it's all about, not another 15 second bottom time. Just have fun doing what you love. Far too many guys out there can hold their breath for 3 minutes on land, and run a triathlon but can't hunt or dive worth a shit.

I deer hunt a lot. The HEC's suit makes a difference with birds I'm sure. I've never had it on when I actually saw a deer though. But, for birds, it's like putting on a cloak of invisibility. It's almost weird how close they get to you and stay and even land on your on occasion.

I've never even thought to wear it diving. I have a three acre pond full of fish, I should wear in there and see if it makes a difference.

I know this thread is kind of old, but I've used Tightbond III, 2 part epoxy from Woodcrafters and Gorilla glue to re-laminate old marine plywood on a pontoon boat I have. The edges of the 4x8 sheets of plywood were separating as far back at a foot or so into the boards. I first tried the 2 part epoxy which was very expensive for just two small bottles. I followed all directions and clamped the separated wood together for 3 days before removing the clamps. A day later the boards separated again and were de-laminating. I then tried the Tightbond III and the same thing happened. As a last resort I thought I'd give Gorilla glue a try and 3.5 years later all the de-laminated wood is still holding tight. I'm an absolute fan of Gorilla glue. Don't forget to wet both pieces of wood to be glued though.

I heard back from my buddy who initiated the buy for the super modulus he said; "We ordered the rubber as a part of a special order put in by a guy in the San Diego dive community (Dave Lawrey)." From what I understand, Dave has passed. Too small of world.

Yea, I've been "just another gringo" before. No problem there. OK, how about views from the mountain range back over the ocean? I searched and searched and couldn't find any properties or lots like that. Is the mountain range too far west? How about a stupid gringo question; what is the electrical there is it 110V/220V at 60 hertz or something different? No one would ever mistake me for a tree-huger but I do speak solar/wind fairly fluently something I'm seeing used on lot's of places there.

And the good news, my wife told me to pound sand (actually not that nicely) about going down there solo and checking things out. Then she said she was just kidding and thought it was a good idea. I may come down and try and find a place to rent for the summer then spend the summer down there with our son and have the wife come down a couple times over the summer and check things out too.

Got to go sit in a tree now. Rut is almost over and I'm still without a buck.

Hank, you're crushing my dream of being on the water! You're right, I need to get down there and am going to do so. I have a bunch more to learn before flying down and bumming around for a month though. I should probably let my wife know too.

I have the black stuff. It's for a big reef gun I put together years ago. I tried it on an open water Alexander gun he made me, but I couldn't get that gun to shoot straight no matter how many bands I tried on it, so I dumped it. Thanks for the update.

Jack lived out on Point Loma in San Diego right? I get him and Wally mixed up. We went out there to his house a few times years ago when we were building guns and trying to get his take on what we were doing and get help with mounting his reel designs on them.

At the time, it was pretty good and pretty rare stuff. Riffe and Alexander sold bands but nobody "sold" this stuff. I "think" Wally Potts was the one with line on this stuff. I'll have to ask my buddy.

These bands could stay fully stretched for hours without loosing much if any power.

I'll take a pic and post it, but they are all black rubber with very small hole.

I had a school of bait fish try to escape some pursuing barracuda by schooling underneath me just as the barracuda attacked. Pretty scary and happened very fast. I didn't get as much as a scratch. They knew exactly what was fish and what wasn't, even in a frenzy. This was down off the point of the Fish Camp in Bahia de Los Angeles Baja.

Does this exist anymore? It's been a while since I needed to buy more bands for my old guns but that last time I did my buddy and I bought a few hundred feet of what was called Super Modulus tubing. Somebody would make a run of this stuff every several years and the spearo's would buy it up. I'm down to my last few bands which I made up years ago and have been in the fridge in Ziplocs and encased in baby powder.

Is there something like it now that's commonly available?

It's a good location for spearfishing. You're only about 10 miles south of where I live. The reef is not too far out from there.
But Dangriga isn't a touristy area. Only a couple hotels. It's more an old fishing town turned commerce centre for Stann Creek district. Lot of stores for everything.
Security can be an issue there. PM me for more details.

I can't IM from the site. Not sure why, I'll ask one of the mods.

I found another too which I've asked for more information on from the Realtor. Not exactly what we want but getting closer. I was wondering about security in the area, but I've had to deal with that before. We're not looking for touristy, we don't mind doing our own thing. We live way out in the country now with no neighbors.

Anyhow, I'll get the IM thing going here soon. Here's the other place.

Two story house (two apartments) on the beach! Hopkins/Sittee Point area No.1404 |

Yep, Ohio has changed a lot too since I left there in 1977.
Deer were scarce, believe it or not, back then. We were really stoked to see one while driving out in the country drinking beer on Friday night, which is what we did for fun back then.
By the 90s, they were like rabbits. And now there are coyotes, which I guess came in when the deer population climbed?
I heard in the late 90s on the radio, while at my parents house in Lawrenceburg, IN that in Ohio alone that year there were over 5000 deer related car accidents.
I would have a hard time moving back there though. Once I saw the sea, there was no turning back. Glad you like it though. I was from Harrison, a little town on I74. The last town in Ohio before you cross into Indiana heading to Indianapolis.
I hope you're still a Charger fan. the Bengals suck. haha. I still root for them but it's a disappointment every year.

Hank, I couldn't send you a private message, but what do you think of this piece of property?

Prime Belize Real Estate- BEACHFRONT beautiful house and lot in Foreshore Area Dangriga Town! No.1395 |

I posted last month regarding buying a place in Belize, looks like it may well happen. We're getting some funds together and sorting out the details. It will probably take another year before we have something but keep up all the "teasing" with your great dive trips. Looked like a great day in the water. Congratulations.

You, me and Hau, the three musketeers :thumbsup2: I was born on Lockbourn AFB in Columbus and spent a month there before shipping out to New London Conn.
Twenty years ago I dove a Caddy cross country and went out of my way to stop in Columbus. It was snowing when I pulled off the freeway at 2am, woke the wife up and said here it is honey. Than I turned left under the overpass and headed East bound to the Catskill mountains.

    Cheers, Don

So I guess you're not coming for X-Mas this year!
