I would just neanderthal test it....
Get a 50 lb dumbell and attach it to the float. Throw in pool. Add or subtract dumbells and 1 lb weightbelt weights until you determine the max floatation. It should be faily close to the math experts calculation, but I prefer to see it in action.:toast:
I like the size of the new float that Dan is making. The smaller float is only good as a marker float and should not be used for shooting any deep diving fish like amberjacks. I watched a small Aimrite float disapear in to the abyss never to be seen again. It was attached to a custom made spear, Mori Slip Tip, and a 100 foot Riffe bungee. That was a $500 mistake:toast:

The Suzuki 250 is the way to go. Not only is it the best priced engine, it is also bullet proof. I have a 2005 that I have been running for 7 years. I have a friend that has put 4,000 hours on the same motors. The only down side is the service facilities are far and few between. If you have a good local Suzuki dealer that won't be a problem.
Yamahas are great motors and have a better network of dealers, but the $4,000 price difference is not worth it to me.

Unfortunately the area of the CS is severely overfished because of some of the local governments historically relaxed regs on commercial fishing; especially long line fishing. There seems to be several species that are listed as vulnerable to extinction by IUCN. I am not read up on the stock assessments for that area but perhaps a total ban is a tad excessive; especially something so selective as spearing.

Red Tide. Fisheries management is far from a joke. Without regulations the seas would be wiped clean of fish very quickly. I think that one of the issues causing people to have such a mindset is a lack of understanding of the real situations; something I place on the shoulders of the fisheries scientist. I am actually in school studying fisheries management and am working on helping to bridge that gap t gain a better understanding for the betterment of all. The system is far from perfect but it is also a necessary system if we are to have any sort of ocean to enjoy.

I have spent my entire life on the water. I have speared fish in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Carribean, Sea of Cortez, and Gulf of Mexico as well as many Bays and estuaries around the world. I speared my first fish in 1965 and have been keeping track of fish and their habbits for years. I have spent more time in the water and know more about reef fish and pelagics than any of the marine fisheries loosers appointed by the government.
There have been declines in some fish stocks however it has not been from the recreational speros or fisherman. It has been from the commercial fisherman and a decline in habitat.
The fact that 10,000 recreational fisherman's signatures on a petetion can not change the decision made by a few crooked marine fisheries goons and the people they represent means that all of that science you are studying in school is really irrelevent.
Closing down the ocean to us and leaving it open to the commercials is proof that the science that you are studying is complete BS.
    Cheers,
    G.R.

This crap is going on all over the world. I wish I knew who was pulling the strings of this puppet. How is it they can convince governments to do this and we can not convince gorernments not to do this? Fisheries management is a joke and unfortunately the joke is on us. I will send a petition because it is the right thing to do but I feel the decesion has already been made.

A inexperienced boat captain can get overwhelmed when you have multiple divers in the water with floatlines/ bungees. I have had my bungees run over by a twin screw boat and it aint pretty. It took 20 minutes in 5 foot seas to cut the bungees off the props. :@
To avoid this it is important that you coach the boat captain before you get in the water. Instruct him to stay down wind and down tide at all times and never drive past your float. If the float is between the bow of the boat and the diver you are in good shape. If the boat is between the float and the diver you are going to have problems.... guaranteed. It is also important for the other divers to swim up current and up wind when another diver gets a fish on. The biggest cluster is when everybody swims over to see whats going on. Multiple divers, wind and float lines equals disaster. Experienced divers and dive partners know this and avoid this. Loosing your $300 Riffe bungee to a prop is something not worth repeating. I have done this several times in the early days and I could have avoided this if I explained to the captain what to look out for.
A little trick I have learned is to stay with your float. Hold on to it when you are on the surface and make contact with it quickley when you return to the surface. This minimizes the cluster factor and it also minimizes the cluster of becoming tangled in the other divers floats and float lines.

I agree that the C100 are not as easy to move around in, but when you are at 130 feet and want to get back to the surface with the same breath you started with the C100 are a welcome part of my dive gear. The C90s are good for the average stuff that most of us dive. I will say that both are bullet proof. I have abused my C100 for 2 years now and they show no signs of failure. That is why I came back and bought the new C90 this past month.
I am not going to say anything bad about other make fins, but there are some real bad carbon fins out there. That is why I dove the Cressy's up until about 4 years ago. Watching my friends break blades and complain about their equipment gets old. I want a good product that is super reliable and has good performance. Speardiver has done this for me and they perform better than anything I have tried.
This thread has officially been hijacked :toast:

I have had three pairs of DiveR (soft, medium, and hard) I moved up from Cressi LD and HDs. I found the DiveRs to be excellent. That was until I tried a pair of the Speardiver C100 fins. I liked the Speardiver fins so much that I now have 2 pairs of them. They are in my opinion a better option. Find a foot pocket that you like and go Speardiver. :toast:

Haha thanks guys. I'll take both, I have a ton of guns I'd like to use the reel on so I can save the sturgil reel for the display case. Pm me your email addresses and I'll PayPal you both to cover shipping, etc.

    :toast:

I have to withdraw my offer. I will be using the mount on my new gun that is being built.
