I knew it would not take Gerald long to chime in. He and Emil are the first freedivers that I ever met that smoked.

I took this off Facebook. It cracks me up. I guess they have Cajins in Turkey too.:D

Is that snow in the background? Is this some kind of extreme weather test for your guns? Hahaha!!

When you do the test it should be done with 400 lb mono to see the relevance. Anything greater than your shooting line is not important. A typical 480 lb swivel will hold the biggest fish that most of us will ever shoot. I use a 270 lb for my reef fish rig and have never been broken off. Just saying....

I k now exactly where that spot is and I have the GPS numbers. I think Don Paul had a good name with PARGO COUNTRY, but we call it JURRASIC PARK.:D

Thanks for sharing Phillipe
In my opinion the Dogtooth Tuna is the most challenging fish in the ocean to hunt. They are fast like a wahoo, pull like a tuna, and will rock up like a grouper. Add in high currents and lots of sharks and you can proceed to loose gear and decrease your breath holds while getting exhausted.
Once you get the drift right and understand their habbits you can shoot them quite easily. Landing them will always be a matter of luck. I found that using minimal bungee can keep them out of the rocks and a good shot in the back third of the body will eliminate tear offs.
The other thing that is most important is having a schedule like Phillipe's to travel and research these fish. Finding where and when the big ones are around is most rewarding. This can not be achieved on a short trip. It can take weeks and lots of intel with fisherman to find the big ones.
I believe there is a 300 lb Dogtooth tuna out there somewhere. -
Those are some great pics. Thanks for sharing.

Mexican barred snapper....Hoplopagrus guentheri .
Cheers, Don
Snapperus Tastelotus Likeus Innertubeus:D
We shot a bunch of these in La Paz last month. I was not impressed with the meat. It was a lot like big black drum. You have to marinate in margarita mix for at least one hour in order to properly tenderize -

7 mm is basically the same as 9/32 which I think is a little slow for slinging. I like 1/4 better. It bends like crazy but it is fairly easy to bend back. I would think a spring steal shaft in 6.5 mm would be stronger than the 1/4 Stainless.

Good stuff Rolo! Thanks for sharing

Four bands and an open track is a strange design in my book.

A 3 mill should be fine. That is a good time of the year and should be a lot of fun. Bring extra shafts because the fish are big!!

decongestants and mucinex are helpful - take a decongestant without pseudoephedrine so you won't increase your heat rate and definitely drink lots of water and avoid coffee, energy drinks, and alcohol .
You also need to solve that mask problem -that will help. Are you putting the edge of the hood over the skirt of the mask ( for a good seal) ? Do you think you need a better fitting mask?Thaat is funny.. I take a Claritin d 24 when I wake up in the morning followed by a giant cup of Cafe Bustello. If I don't do this my ears lock up and I can not dive.

As long as the exterior of the suits is red you will never have to worry about all this other stuff... Just saying!!
