I cooked up my last lobster in some pasta tonight, gotta polish off my last 4-5 pounds of mahi and then I'll tackle the hogfish, i'll let everyone know if I become deathly ill or have any other side effects

Are the worms all over the place? Can you fillet around them? I've never seen a hogfish with worms.

All throughout the meat, I've never even heard of hogfish with worms.

I tried searching but didn't find anything. I have a hogfish I froze a couple weeks ago that had worms in it. I've heard of it in grouper too but have never seen it in my own fish. Can I eat the fish? Do the worms cook out?

we will be trying to find new spots so I think drifting will work best, just wanted peoples opinions and the reasoning seems logical. Psychobilly good call on the starting/operating of boat and systems - never even thought of teaching everyone onboard all of the basics but in an emergency It makes sense that everyone know what to do.

I've recently purchased a boat and spearfishing from it will be new to me. I'm just wondering what some of the preferred methods to using a boat are? Anchor and everyone jump in, or is a diveboat technique where someone stays onboard and picks up the divers after a drift/scan? Is either better/safer? Or does it just depend on the day/conditions/divers skills? Its just me and friends I won't do it commercially or anything I'm just wondering how I should go about it.

I went out on my boat friday when seas were 2-4 building to 4-6 as that cold front came through and I saw 3 fully loaded dive boats out, I think it is probably the cold keeping them out right now.

We released it, we had a cell phone video of the fight and landing/release but for unknown reasons it didn't save. I would've liked to upload it here it was a lot of fun on fairly light rod/reel and 25lb test. unfortunately the video was lost but it was a fun experience even though I'm more of a meat fisherman than a sportfisherman. On a sidenote: Dan what is your preference on where to post H&L fishing stories?

went out in the boat today seas were easily 3-5', probably closer to 3 in spearfishing depths and 5+ offshore. Just trolled due to the rough conditions and caught a ~50lb sailfish(my first ever) before heading in due to seasick passengers.

Update: contacted the original seller about the watch and since it was shipped to me with a dead battery he was nice enough to send me another one free. Dropped it into the pool tonight and its watertight and measured depth and temp accurately!!!!!!! WOOHOO! Now if I could just get it salty I'd be much happier

The original one is still being "repaired" unfortunately. I don't know why it's taking 2 weeks to dry out, but when I went by to check on it last week it was working. SO hopefully he can get it watertight and then I'll have a spare.

i enjoyed the part where the man at the surface gets the line tangled around his fins/waste, lets me know im not the only one struggling with the damn ropes in the water. Very impressive diving although I think the big lead sinker takes some of the sport out of it. That said I can't reach those depths with fins.

conditions were great today! seas were less than 2 ft, slow current from N to S, wind 5-10 from NE. Vis was 40+, theres was some funky stuff in the first 2-3 ft of water looked like cobwebs. Got 2 hogs, 1 mac, and a lobster in 2.5 hours.

    Thank you Judah!

Filled the boat up today - turns out it's only a 65gal tank (we were told 100). Tomorrow I'm getting 2 new FREE deep cycle batteries from my Uncle. I'm going spearfishing Sunday but don't know yet if it will be from the beach or the boat (hopefully the boat).

picked the boat up at 930 and put 40 gallons of fresh gas and oil in. Drove down to C-14 canal and ran her up and down a couple times. Max speed on the gps was 38mph with 3 ppl on board and cruise at 4k rpm was 28mph. The motor has good torque and makes a good launch for a 150hp on a boat this size. I meant to rewire the oil pump alarm before the test drive but forgot so that was driving everyone onboard insane the entire time. I replaced the rod holders (yes I still H&L fish), some of the bimini top hardware, and the cooler corner holder things. Just need to load up on the required coast guard safety equipment and sign up for seatow and it will be ready for it's first oceanic trip under my ownership.

Well I got her mostly cleaned up and got really drunk haha cleaning party ended up just being a party, but the boat is clean. The starboard side and transom still need to be buffed but other than that she's pretty much done. All of the paperwork is complete and she is parked in her new storage space under 24hr surveillance. I will pick it back up thursday and grease trailer bearings, double check all lights/wires, and add fuel back into tank with oil(drained all fuel yesterday - got a free 32 gallons) pics will be added thursday. hopefully soon I'll get to take it out.
