My wife got me one a few years ago for Christmas. The battery was dead when it arrived. Each time I replaced the battery and wore it, it died in minutes. It has not flooded. Just a waste of money. If anybody wants mine, they can have it. Hope it works out for you.

My battery was dead when I got it, but its new old stock, I think they stopped making them in '06 so I expected that. I went to fast fix in the mall and it was $25 bucks for them to replace the battery and it has a 5 year warranty, if it dies within 5 years take it in and they replace it free of charge. I couldn't beat that.

LB I heard they had flooding problems too but only when a) the case was opened and improperly reinstalled (there is an o-ring inside) OR b) people played with the buttons underwater. Which in the manual it says specifically not to do.

For the past couple months I had been looking into cheap depth meters. My dad suggested some ancient technology he used to use where water in the gauge pushed a needle around...:S anyway I came across an older timex helix depth model. I saw some mixed reviews, most bad reviews were that its huge and ugly, but I don't care what I look like underwater so that didn't mater to me. I decided to buy it off of ebay for $38, far cheaper than anything else I could find. It came in the mail today and sure enough its big and ugly. I'm going to go get a battery for it and ill test it in the pool later. Heres a picture:

Dan I ended up removing the spacer from the front hole, the slight inconvenience of the band getting out of place didn't bother me as much as how tight the shooting line was to route. I do like how well it holds the rear band in place and doesn't interfere with anything.

i use a tickle stick and net, if you kind of play with their antennas they will come out a bit to see whats going on, slip the net behind them and smack them in the head they will shoot back into the net. OR reach in grab on tight and shake semi-violently, the jarring motion allows you to work them out of even some pretty tight holes.

I dove friday evening after work in northern broward, it was my first time getting my new pursuit speargun wet. the viz was a crappy 15ish feet at best but I did manage to get a 20" cero. Thanks again dan I love the gun, I just need to practice loading.

how tall/strong are you? I know I have a pretty tough time loading my friends 130 and im 6'1". I think your probably going to want a slightly smaller gun.

OK so I run the reel line through the guide and then just have a swivel where the bungie is that will attach the shooting line to the reel line, that was my onlyl questionable area. What knot works good for tying the fling-it to the swivel? Any fishing knot?

So Friday I decided to step up and buy a pursuit speargun (WOOHOO - now if the weather would just clear up) anyway, Dan gave me a plastic reel to try out, BUT I don't know how to rig the thing. I just ordered some fling-it line and when it arrives I'll spool the reel and see if I like it or not. If anyone could post a picture or how-to relating to reel rigging it would be much appreciated.:S

went to the beach tonight with the g/f didn't look too bad kayak guys should have little to no problems, beach board type divers will have some issues with the surf. I don't know how viz will be, I would imagine still pretty shitty.:(

Judah you can hold a 1/2" band over your thumb fully stretched?!? you are a MANIMAL my friend! my double jointed thumb just folds back against my wrist so I use my other 4 fingers, but on long days when my hand gets sore I've even placed the band between my index and middle fingers.

its not bad, if you learned shooting hollow aluminum polespears or fiberglass cheapies then it might be a little more drastic, but if your learning with it then there won't be anything to compare to.

the odor is a good spear, its just very heavy so it takes some getting used to. Get a 3 prong paralyzer tip for small fish (>5lbs) if you plan to shoot larger fish get a slip tip or flopper. I most frequently shoot my odor with his 30" tip on it.

I've seen them cut grunts in half like nothing while h and L fishing.

dolphin fishing last year in the keys I had one nearly get my hand as I was pulling a fish in, cut the dolphin clean in half. sucked to lose half the fish but sure glad it wasnt my hand.

We were on the south side of the island in the sand/grass

    hahaha, that is awesome hau....nice

sounds like a great trip mike, thank for sharing the story, I would have tried to bring a collapsable spear...did you research to see if it was allowed?

NO I didn't look into it and I haven't had a chance to make a collapsible spear as I haven't perfected a one piece yet. In addition, I wasn't sure what I would do with any speared fish because we weren't in either location for more than a couple of hours and would need to arrange cleaning and preparing fish. I doubt they allow you to bring raw fish on a cruise ship and I didn't have the foresight to look up local restaurants to try to find one that might be willing to cook/clean any catch. I guess maybe next time I could look into doing some spearing and at worst just give it to the crew of the tour boat.
