What's up guys. I'm wondering how many of you smoke, how much you smoke compared to how much aerobic exercise you do and most important what are you breath hold times?

I really want to quit. I know the risks and it's still very difficult to get through my skull.. Looking for some motivation.

I used to and now I chew. my breath hold has improved a lot since I quit about 4 years ago.

Brett why does everyone drive in reverse where you live??? ;)

I like the tone and the vibe of the video. now if you could only start killing some fish or catching some big bugs then your movie would be great. right now its at a 6 on a 1-10 scale with those couple pointers it could go from a 6 to a 10.

thanks for returning my phone calls while I was in town you punk!

    good work.

Probably my favorite fish to eat, but I've yet to spear one. I'd sure like to hear the story!

    Ok fine...

So, it was last week on Friday. My buddy Brett and my self had just got diving the day before were I shot that toad Calico that went 8.5lbs in LJ. On Saturday we went back to that spot to go look for WSB but, unfortunately once again the conditions just didn't permit for them. So we decided to check other spots near by for better conditions. nothing looked good.

We stop at a particular cove we the viz looked a little better then the other place but actually it is mostly reef and is very shallow (no deeper then 35ft). At this point Brett is over the idea of diving but I'm pumped. I said "Dude I'm getting in and shooting some Rockfish whether you like it or not" he's all "fine lets go..." so we got in right around slack tide. I jumped in about 3ft of water and right away I spotted a giant Cab. Easily a new PB for me if I did wiffffff on stabbing it haha. So long story shot on that guy...he got away.

I was probably in the water for another 30 more minutes after that when I found my self right over a perfect patch of sand no bigger then a pick up truck. I'm thinking to my self "If there is going to halibut anywhere in this cove he or she is going to be right here somewhere". So I dive down to about 30ft and right away I see a giant tail showing right under a little patch of eel grass. I'm thinking to my self "this fish has to big because, I have shot a lots of halibut in my life (18 last summer) and non of them had this big of a tail. So, not being able to see the rest of the body I aimed 1ft in front the tail and pulled the trigger. Bammmm! I thought I stoned him until I grabed the other end of the mono and he dragged me about 20 ft underwater haha. That was fun. Once I was able to get close enough to the fish I pinned it to the sand with one hand and with the other stabbed my knife right in it brain. Put him on the stringer and thought the fight was over. Oh was I wrong. This was probably the most crucial time of the fight. I have one of those stab stick stringers and I threaded it threw its gills and out it mouth. all at once the fish gave one last fight and managed to pull the metal stabber out of my waitbelt and was only about one kick away from being home free. I THOUGHT BRAINING THE THING WAS THE END OF IT BUT I WAS WRONG! I literately had to get my hands in its gills, bear hug it as tight as I could then rip both its gills out. That time the fish died for good.

Once they get that big they become very strong fish!

I was fricking stoked once I got him out of the water and saw just how big it was. They truly never get old to shot and let alone just see under water.

Awesome fish dude.:thumbsup2:....now photoshop that backround;).

    Cheers, Don

Thanks Don. It was nice meeting you at the legends event. I wish I could have chatted a bit longer.

You know... I really could care less about the where abouts where I shoot my fish. I tell people all the time were I go. I welcome people to the spot I dive. Plus its La Jolla who doesn't dive there and, it makes for a good background.

I shot this calico today while looking for WSB's. unfortunately the whites just weren't around. I talked to a few people who said they were in the same area yesterday and, they saw the same stuff we did which was lots of skidish bait and kelp that was laying down. I say give it another 2 weeks and they will be thick! He went 8.5lb's. At first I thought I had a new PB cause the previous 10lbr I shot was about as fat as he was but now that I'm look back my PB was a lot longer and had a mouth the size of a large dinner plate This guy was prob about 24 inch and was really fat.

good luck out there and dive safe.

Great looking Calico.......Dan sells PPDs you know for this time of year,;):D

    Nice ponga too.:thumbsup2:

    Cheers, Don

Thanks Don. yeah the calico went just a little over 10lbs. It was a PB calico for me. we were looking for whites and yellows with all the bait and squid but they were no where to be found. Iv'e already got 1 white so far this season so I was ok with shooting fat calico and goats all day.

Entertaining vid, cool musics. Who are the two guys? One's name is Jim and the other I'm guessing is Bluewater1.

So is the footage from around this time of year? How thick are the suits you're using and how long do you stay in the water?

Jim is my best friend. He isn't much of a spearo but, he will get in the water with me from time to time. My name is Hutton but most people just call me Hut. I'm the one spearing in the film.

My suit is a 5mill and i can stay in the water with it for about 3 hours at a time in this time of year. during the summer i can stay in forever.

All the footage was taken in the past 2 weeks. The first segment was shot at the Coronados in Mexico the second segment was shot at my beach near my house and the third segment was shot at S.C.I. (San Clemente Island) on Saturday.

most of the time the water was around 56-59' and viz was anywere from 10ft -70ft in all segments.

Whats up everyone. I know diving has been crapy around here recently and, the board has been looking for some good news so... this weekend on Saturday (The first day of the new year) myself and 3 other spearos including "TopTuna" went looking for some viz. you should be able to tell by the video where we were but lets just say we found some and a whole lot more. :thumbsup2:

Enjoy and give me some pointers if you feel necessary.

I know. I need a wide angle lens :angry5: don't worry I'm going to get one.

    Viz: 40+
    Water Temp: 59
    Fish: Lots
    Bugs: None

More pics should be up soon.

Keep your heads up guys. This year is going to be a good one! Going to Baja in a week. Suck It!

Nice Door man! Iv'e got like 10 of them under my belt this summer and up until this point and none of them have been that big. my biggest one was 36inch so yeah i would say you have some luck on your side.

    cheers,

    Hut

I was just at San Clemente last week and there were no Yellow's but lots of Bonita and Barries. shot some sheepshead and lots of Calicos. like always i would say saty close to kelp if not in the kelp and forget the rocky bottems. if there are any yellows there they should be closer to the surface because of the colder water this year. but you never really know right?
