Went again yesterday. Got in a storm, broke some gear, had to dive thru 20ft of zero vis to get to the clear water due to a recent storm. Still got our limit. Everybody else we talked to said that the runoff from the river went from top to bottom. But where we were, it stopped around 20ft, and got really cold and clear.

    Good trip after all.

No pictures, but I also bleed and ice them quickly (as I do with all fish).

Preparation is to remove darker meat, slice thin, dip in egg wash, roll in seasoned bread crumbs, and fry in olive oil. She then puts them in a plate with paper towels to remove any excess oil, and serves it along with spaghetti with marinara sauce.

Its really good, reminds me of veal parmigiana.

My Wife is a very good cook, my physique proves it :)

Cant figure the Snapper season though. Nobody can. I think the perception of the fish stock is way wrong. I have been diving the Northern Gulf since the late 70's, and we have never had this many big Snapper.

    Nice fish.

Shame about the 3 day limit.

    So what lives there? :)

The 3 day season is for Federal waters (past 9 miles). State water season is 60 days.
I got plenty of spots in state waters, so its good. This fish was 3 miles out.

    Aside from that, we got some really big Mangrove snapper with no season, King and Spanish Mackerel, and some of the biggest sheephead you will ever see. This was 3 weeks ago;

Although the Federal Snapper season is only 3 days, we are allowed 60 days in State waters (9 miles out).

Lots of snapper there, but you have to contend with marginal visibility at times, as well as strong currents.

Here's the largest of a 2 fish limit I got yesterday in less than 10 ft vis, plus it was very cloudy. Had to get the job done quick due to it was stormy, and conditions were deteriorating quickly. Hard to have a good breath hold on this spot with all that dark and bad vis. I been there many times in good vis, and I know what lives there.

    Beauchat Super Compensator.

Im glad they still make it. It is the only one that fits well.

    I keep 2 always.

I concur with burning the lens. That has always worked for me.

I went on a "REALLY" sharky trip last year for Wahoo. We were all getting our fish attacked, as well as sharks approaching us that we had to "poke" with our speartips to deter. One of the guys was wearing an electronic deterrent. I didn't notice any difference with the sharks around him.

I just don't want to have a false sense of security. Better to keep your guard up. Its how you act and react around sharks that matters. I seen a shark eat a turtle shell and all. I know he could eat that thing (and whats wearing it).

You guys are crazy! Great video! Thanks for sharing

    Thanks.

This trip was on my "bucket list". Ive done some crazy stuff, but this trip was right up there with anything i had previously done. We planned this trip for a long time. Ced researched the best time to go, and thats when we went.

I guess you can say that everything just lined up. We are already planning another trip next year.

    Once just wasnt enough.

    Oh my God......

This is EXACTLY why it is sooo very hard for me to take people on my boat other than my 2 Sons and Cedric.
Everyone locally thinks its some kind of an exclusive clique. Its just that i dont want something like this or drowning to happen on my vessel.

I cannot imagine being a Charter Captain for spearfishing.

HOLY FISH BALLS!!Man that was freaking awesome... the lot of you need your ****ing heads examined though!!:@:@
Your buddy is the real deal, only going for head shots in that environment, and breaking the fish as hard as he could whenever he shot, better the fish tear off and live again than to feed the sharks for no reason... RESPECT!

That was kind of like spearing cobia behind a shrimp boat, only difference was, 60 lb wahoo instead of cobia, and all of the sharks were big, not 4 ft blacktip.

Ced is the real deal. Best diver i have ever dove with.

That 1/2 wahoo incident was a lot different in the water than watching it on video. Me and Ced jumped in the boat pretty quick. I can move quick for a 54 year old man when 2 Duskys are right under my fins. Still recovered some of the fish.

They were welcoming you and thinking of all the snacks come light, ;)
Even if you were not fully in charge, you guys kept your cool , and let them know your another predator and not the lamb. You guys did great, always trying face off or watch your 6. I'd dive with mates like that any day,

    Cheers, Don

    Thanks,

Ced is a good dive buddy, he is always "on the spot", and never gets rattled.
    We dive well togeather.

The ONLY one that i landed intact was the spine shot. The rest were attacked in quick order.
Full moon that night. I got up and went to the stern and saw sharks swimming around the boat.

Wild place. No matter what you are on land, this place lets you know that you are not in charge here.
