I've been noticing that on most(if not all) of the custom gun builds that there isnt a safety catch of some sort. Is it because it makes the build a lil more complicated?

Been working hard at that record Dan. Shot that beast today after 4hrs in the water. Long swim, bad vis, rain all day and a fairly strong rising tide current...conditions couldnt be much worse but HARD WORK PAYS OFF!

I was in the process of getting my first underwater cam in the likes of the GOPRO HD HERO but now i see Gopro has released an updated version of the HD Hero. It has some nice features that were expected with an upgrade and im thinking of getting it but i see that it doesnt come with video cables and also being newer, maybe there are bugs to work out. Is it worth the buy or should i go ahead with what is tried and tested?

    HD HERO2 Outdoor Edition

even though ive harvested a few of these, its always rewarding when i get a chance to play with a huge one if its docile enough, instead of killing it. beautiful beasts! like having a pet bison lol

[quote='Dan','http://spearfishing.world/forums/index.php?thread/&postID=54683#post54683']Roberto, it's in the records under Jack Black.

Updated records list. If I missed anyone let me know. I'll try to upload the pics to the records section soon,

u missed my only record for Black Margate :(

for me to dive under those conditions...those fish gotta be waaaaaaaaaayy bigger than that! kudos to my russian brethren for having real heart!:clap2:

i think id only do that type of spearfishing once just to say i did.........on second thought, lets not do it and say we did! :D

I LOVE THE SEA. Ive been in, on, under or around it for nearly 3 decades. ive been freedive spearfishing since 11-12yrs old. Ive always wanted to learn to SCUBA dive just to be more intimate with the sea so now im an Advanced Open Water diver 4yrs running. I have spearfished on SCUBA and im just as good as i am freediving cause i still use a gun and i still have the mindset of a hunter but the challenge is different...the difference is also challenging, having more air doesnt necessarily make u a more successful hunter. To me its just a different means to achieve the same thing. The fact remains that im still fascinated by the sea and there are times while in the middle of a dive while SCUBA hunting that i just ignore my instincts, lay on the bottom and do nothing but day dream and become part of whats going on...id see the biggest fish and just leave him alone...all the while thinking "good thing i wasnt on a breathhold or why does my tank have to finish?" lol. Maybe i just think different.

But all said and done, there are unscrupulous people out there, whether they be free dive hunters or SCUBA hunters so i dont think there should be a blanket judgement just cause one prefers to wear a tank.

As for tagging along when u get back home its not a problem but they've renovated Macqueripe and put up signs so u cant swim out from the beach to hunt anymore. Toco and Paria are a better bet but in the rainy season the water isnt too good. PM me for any further details.

To me the whole point of SCUBA was so that man can stay underwater longer...which ultimately is what every freediver tries to do. Would u hate on a fellow freediver who has a 4 minute breathhold when u only have 1 minute?...and as for a relaxing view, exploring the bottom and taking pictures...dont we as freedivers enjoy and do the same? Oh yeah, as for them having an advantage....ive freedive a few times alongside SCUBA hunters and shot more fish than them, even though we were on the same boat and dropped on the same spots...ITS ONE THING TO HAVE POWER BUT THE ADVANTAGE LIES IN WHAT U CAN DO WITH IT.

There arent too many and most that do are those that have a strong free diving background from starting at a young age like myself, so we have experience and know what it is to hunt selectively, conservatively and sustainably, not like those "Johnny come lately" that think buying a gun and "shooting fish" anyway and anyhow is cool. I think most of the pressure comes from those that dont know about(or choose to ignore) ways to hunt selectively, conservatively and sustainably, whether they be Scuba divers or free divers.

Doing any type of fishing in a place where it is illegal should not be condoned but i was referring to the fact that some freedive spearfishermen are very critical of scuba spearfishing whether it be legal or not. Its the whole idea of the breathhold vs the breathing apparatus which they think is too easy and doesnt give fish a chance.

Lately i've been noticing a trend while watching spearfishing videos where people(some who i assume are free divers, others are probably ur average Joe who just likes to hate on everyone when it comes to killing animals), are very critical in their comments to Scuba divers that spearfish. I wont get into the pros and cons of each method here but long story short... Why is there this animousity toward someone who is after the same goal?
