Yes, I agree with Red Tide, usually while going for tuna, we spear something else to eat as a variety, and I once speared a large Barred Snapper, and the meat was not good, first and last one.
But they are really cool looking, and I bet some one will find it tasty, its probably a matter of
what you prefer. -
I shot a big barred snapper and it was prepared by the commercial fisherman's wife. We chowed down that fish in seconds with tortillas. :laughing3:
Maybe they don't taste good, but that one sure did.

From what I can find leopard grouper is pacific whereas speckled hind is Atlantic/Caribbean they are in the same family but are different genus and species. Epinephelus drummondhayi - hind, plectropomus leopardus - leopard grouper.
Very nice fish Underway!

Whoa Emil's record is toppled! I didn't think that was going to happen for a very long time.
-
Been working hard at that record Dan. Shot that beast today after 4hrs in the water. Long swim, bad vis, rain all day and a fairly strong rising tide current...conditions couldnt be much worse but HARD WORK PAYS OFF!
