nice, Sunday looks like the day to shoot for...i am thinking shore dive and BBQ after...anyone in? I'll bring the frozen monster hog so we'll have something to eat regardless of our hunting success.

I am in! Not sure my little grill can handle that monster though. May have to find a park with grills.
Ben, that goes without saying. :toast:8):toast:

Greetings man, welcome to the forum. You and I are in the same area as far as depth abilities but with the reef system here that doesn't limit too much. I too started with scuba(15 years advanced) but now never touch it aside from recreational stuff or deep stuff (100+'). Lots of good info here to get help with breath hold stuff but I find the best thing is just doing it. Though I don't get out enough to improve these days :(. Shoot me a PM sometime if ya want to head out.

Nothing wrong with H&L fishing either, I still really enjoy both.

    :toast:

sweet. hope it turns into a regular occurance.

Heck yes, I am always down for a boat trip. The yak is great but a boat offers so much more freedom.

Hau, I saw that cuda you shot the other day in your pics, it had to be about the same size right? You eat that or are you waiting to hear from the MIL? <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">
I don't shoot them too often that big (or take them from others in this case) so I may just get one of those test. $40 is better than having those neurological symptoms. :@

Judah, no selling out there bro; priorities like that take presidence man; no worries.
This weekend is looking kinda of iffy now but it may turn out so fingers crossed there.

Yea man, that ride back in was viscous to say the least. :@
I got skunked on the day with 2 missed shots on nice cuda's; actually think Lunker's big one may be one of my misses. ^^. Aside from that I guess they saw me coming cause I didn't see much. But a great day on the water for sure.

Thanks again Judah for the invite and the fish. I have to improve my stats this weekend. Weather is looking like it may cooperate with us.

I actually have the big cuda in my freezer, had some real nice fillets on her but I am hesitant to eat it because of the whole Ciguatera possibility. Any thoughts on that are appreciated as I hate to waste fish, but feel I would hate the cig Sx's even more. ?(

surfs up.... got some nice swells coming into Ft lauderdale beach

    :@ but it's 37 degrees out with a high in the 50's. No thank you. Not without a dry suit. <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">

idk if you guys have seen the beach cams, but its pretty flat close to shore.... near shore viz might not suffer because of this front.

Yea man, all this wind is coming straight out of the west so it is keeping the surf laid down pretty nice. Though paddling back in directly into near gale force winds would not be fun; not to mention the blast chill effect it would have. This weekend is supposed to be warmer and much less wind so hopefully the vis isn't effected; guess that will depend on the wind direction.

Welcome man, lots of good info here; bar far where I have learned the most (aside from just going out and doing it that is). I too started off as a SCUBA guy but since I started freediving the bubble machine only comes out for fun dives or going deep and that too is rare these days as I almost always rather be freediving and spearing.

There was also a story about Richard Geer and a gerbil. The nurse who told me about that had no reason to lie either. Both stories are possible thought highly unlikely. I'd like to believe the fish story and doing so is harmless so I will choose to believe.

    Thanks for posting.

Now that's just funny. <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin"> However I think one dealing with a celebrity has more reason to lie because what's more fun than over embellishing a story or starting a rumor about them; some people get rich doing that! I would be far more inclined to believe the fish tale, especially with the picture and all. Though, not sure I'd want to see a pic to prove the Geer story :@. I too though am making the choice to believe this one.

judah, let me know next time you guys do this. me and shallowrunner live a minute from each other so we can always hitch a ride. I'm not sure about Shallow Runner's pool, but there is no way that its gonna happen in my complex pool lol. wayyy to many annoying kids.

I'd be really interested in testing out my gun in these precise controlled conditions.

Ben, Yea, they would shit if I did that. They gave me a hard time when I had some SCUBA gear in there helping my gf when she was doing her cert. But I think we may end up doing it on Sunday (Judah?) and drinking some beers and watching football. Let me know if ya want to ride out with. It is certainly nice to have a pretty neutral environment to get a baseline for assessing your gun.

Jeff, I had thought of something similar to your idea but as a means to give more options for targets and of various sizes, shapes, etc. I imagine with that belting, being more durable, one could go so far as cutting fish like silhouettes to make it more realistic and help with making that kill shot placement (finding the gill plate/lateral line, etc). The float PVC is as you described, capped with air (or foam if needed for buoyancy) and the bottom capped with sand for weight. Mono would serve as the support/guide lines. Not sure if would be too much or not (tangles, etc) but it could work pretty well I think. Thoughts?
