Nice, I will get a hold of you later in the week. If you want to yak it my buddy would probably come and has a second. It's smaller but works.

sounds like a great day.. you guys wanna dive this weekend or friday?

Judah, Ben Lets do it up Saturday/Sunday. I can't get off work Friday but I am done with Finals this week and the conditions look to hold for the weekend. That good vis last weekend has me itching to get back out. Shore, Yak, FTL, Dania, whatever; lets do it. I will throw the grill and cooler in the truck and we can do it up afterward and enjoy some of our catch and a few brews. Shoot me a text and let me know what's up.

Lunker, you should have posted some from the day we were consistently hitting it at distance :). I don't think I realized I wasn't locking my arm out that day, the cold water may have effected my brain function :@. Perhaps we should try it out with a larger target as suggested so we know which way we are missing. Though an onlooker is able to see where it was missing as I noticed the other guys (forgot his name) shots were left or low. But having a mark may be nice too. Good times though.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like I will have to rent a suit if I hit the surf then, only have a 3mil. Not sure if I am up to a 20' session, haven't seen a wave over 7' in years (Florida ripple rider).
I will certainly check out the winery locations suggested though.

Thanks again. Looking forward to the trip. :toast:

I am heading to SF in 2 weeks; so I should bring the thicker wetsuit hu? Only ever been in the waters out there around LA/Malibu and that was in July and August when I could escape from Ft Erwin for the weekend. I was considering doing some surfing, how are the waves up there this time of year? Also, while there I am Hoping to hit up wine country with the lady friend (if anyone has a suggestion I am all ears).

I was unaware that there was a Ft Bragg in Cali, that confused me until I looked it up, ?(. I spent 4 years at Bragg in NC.

Nice job guys! Clearwater is near my hometown, that trip has my best day beat for sure. How was the vis over there? My last time the algae bloom was bad and we had like 0-10' at best all day.

I wonder how you would keep that in place on an inflatable, but I get the idea. LB - thanks for all of your help.

I wouldn't imagine it wouldn't slide too much if made tight enough and if the float did rotate the weight should stay on the bottom keeping the flag upright. I guess there could be the fear of it sliding off the end but imagine with a tie down towards the front that could be averted.

That's a sick float Judah, time to test her out.

    The sea is FLAT
Wind is next to none
Almost not a cloud in the sky
    Air temp is 80F

Get at em brother! May the only window for a few days.

Stuff's getting old. Flat while I work and crap while I am free. :angry5:

And those are the times I was talking about, I agree that it does take some of the sport out of it if it is a clear day with good action. I just saw the videos and have a bucket perforated with holes that would be ideal for such a method but didn't want to do anything considered taboo. It came to mind because of the low vis we have been having and the dearth in fish in my freezer.

I am sure it is effective and the shark thing is kind of expected, either from the chum or the increased fish activity; but I am more interested in how this is viewed by the spearfishing community as far as ethics of the sport are concerned. I mean is this just another effective strategy to put fish in the cooler or is it like chucking dynamite into a lake, or to use my previous analogy, using a salt lick for dear? There are some very effective methods that I am sure are not considered kosher.

Has anyone ever dropped a perforated weighted bucket with chum in it, or even a weighted chum bag, to the bottom so to attract fish? I was watching a spear vid online and I know I have heard of this being done before but wasn't sure if it is considered unethical, cheating, or even illegal. It seems it could be likened to using a salt lick for hunting dear which I know is frowned upon but people also use flashers when spearing which seems similar as well. I know I have used the guts from my previous catches and placed them on bottom but this is small in comparison to an actual bucket or chum block. Not even sure if I'd employ this method, was just curious about opinions.

    Dan,
Where did you get that rope from? The weave looks much tighter that the one I use and smaller in diameter which I like; not a huge deal but yours certainly looks better.

Also, I am using that lifeguard can I got from you (works great btw, thanks ) but have 100' of line and as Judah pointed out is a bit much in the ~35' I typically dive in. I keep it that length because I don't want to carry multiple lines with me when out jumping from spot to spot where the length requirement may change. How is the drag in the water of the spool you have? I was thinking of making something similar.

I am going to change out my bands soon as they are starting to show ware. I also want to quiet down my gun some as many have told me it is very loud. In doing this I figured switching to the fabric (nylon?) wishbones may be one of the only ways to do this. I am looking for suggestions on band and wishbone type. I am going to keep the same size bands as I feel they work well for me. I know some people make their own bands, is this suggested over purchasing manufactured bands? Thanks.

Mt. Fuji ,bro, on the descent after climbing thru the night.

Mountains and ocean ...both inspire awe and make you feel small.

Nice, I will certainly have to find my old pics from climbing; god it's been a long time since I did that. I remember the first time I climbed we went all day and got to camp late in the night. Iin the morning I was peeing off a rock still half asleep and thinking how foggy it was when the sun peaked above the horizon and I realized I was on a mountain top looking over a glacial valley above the clouds. I must have sat there for like half an hour kind of awe struck. Still my favorite climbing moment. The Himalayas...simply breath taking. Mt. Fiji must have been a sick climb.

    Aaron,
Where are those pics from? I have some nice higher up ones (on a different computer) from a few places; Himalayas near Kazakhstan, Tetons in WY, and an undisclosed location from one of my deployments. I love the ocean more than anything but being up above the clouds on a mountain is truly amazing.

I can but it is tiring. I actually use a 10pm band which is thinner but I tie a knot in it making I quite short. I have a smoother release with a thinner shorted band than a thick one. Just my experience. The stock band on the odor is perfect with a know tied in it for my float line to attach

Judah, you'll have to show me the method for the pole spear one day. I tried using one in the Keys a few weeks back and had almost no power/speed from it at all. It was a nice spear too, don't remember the name, made by a guy in Arizona I think.
