We were talking about this the other night at the bar, crazy stuff. and like metelin said, I could have gone without seeing that. Since tiger's tend to be scavengers I would venture to say that the mend died before they were eaten.

Still curious what type of knife it is, who makes it. A buddy of mine deals in knives and was curios about it.
-
What's the brand/make of the knife? I may be interested in getting one.
-
woah 6-8 feet,, time to invest in a surfboard
I have one and plan on being at the beach on Saturday if anyone else wants to grab some surf. Kayak surfing? Sounds like fun to me.

Beyond ridiculous!!!! At least no one was killed in this one.
I wonder how this will affect the Fedral closure...
I don't think it should; the report this morning is that no oil was spilled or is leaking. May have dodged a bullet but yea, WTF.

This is getting a little ridiculous I think. :angry5:
Not sure why it says Friday, I think it was a typo.
This one says Thursday. http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9HVSGT80.htmHopefully there is no leak on this one. This is just East of the Horizon rig.

Though I am in SE FL now I can speak for the Gulf Coast near Tampa (where I am from) and say that the fish population to me seems to have declined a bit. The Goliath Grouper thing really pisses me off because there are so many places I have been on where they are the only thing on the reef because they just eat everything. I have had them suck fish right off my spear. Last time I was on that coast spearing I had a nice gag just sitting there but like 4 or 5 GG were just sitting there waiting to tax my catch so I didn't even bother. If they would give us a one week mini season with just one per boat we could control them a bit more; it's not like they run.
I haven't been diving this coast long enough to see a change in the reef's here but I know that I have seen several places that you would think is an ideal habitat but only ever holds ornamental fish.
I am going into Fisheries management once my degree is finished and one thing I want to do is work to get a season for the GG. I haven't seen one here yet but the Gulf is plagued with them.

This is great, but watch to the end to get it all. <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">

holy shatt its windy!,, 27 from the east :angry5:
Time to break out the Surf Board Bro. Spearing looks bleak for a few more days and I am sure the vis will be crap into the weekend.
-
Any shaft can be bent, 7mm shafts are just easier to straighten. Some huge fish are taken with a 7mm shaft.
A good point Dan. All about the shot placement.
-
Thanks for the input guys
, that's why I like this forum. Yea, I hate the slip tip but it came with the gun so I use it as a back up or if I am going for bigger stuff. My shaft is a 3/8 I believe and I definitely want to get a more narrow flopper type shaft soon for all the reasons mentioned. My only concern is strength so not to bend on larger fish such as a big grouper or AJ that have tendencies to bend shafts; but given that I am mostly on reef fish I am going to make the switch once I have the extra cash for one and keep the thicker one and slip tip for days I know I have a greater chance of seeing a large fish.Judah, that works for me. Probably going to get a hold of FL freedivers and see if they have one, unless there is a better choice for retailers. Hoping for Saturday to be clear, looking good so far.

Shawn is it a 6mm thread? I have two tips you can have..one is a single flopper small tip by Torres (crap on a stick company) and is yours free (rinse and care for it or it will rust from the sight of salt water)..and a double flopper biller tip that is bulky but i like it on my polespear and you can have that one for 12 bucks.
I will bring them to you this weekend or throw them in the mail if you need...text me if you want one or both
I believe it to be a 6mm yes. Just bring them both out saturday and if they fit I will buy then from you. I have a breakaway that I can use but it's heavy and a PITA with smaller fish. Thanks brother
. See you this weekend. I am looking forward to trying out the new yak and the float I got from Dan. Definitely need to shoot some fish and re-coupe my pride from the Keys trip. -
I need a place near Ft Lauderdale to get a spear tip for a JBL gun. I broke mine off in the Keys last weekend :angry5: and want to get out this weekend. I know Diver's Direct carries some but they are limited in their selection and ordering them takes too long or is not worth the cost for rush delivery. Are there any other dive shops that might carry spear equipment, most don't seem to that I have been in? Thanks.

This has been a fear of mine since they started using the dispersants. What did they think would happen realistically? That much oil wasn't just going to vanish. Wonder what the first big hurricane will bring to the surface and churn up. I hope for the beast but truly fear the worst here. In my studies I work with a lot of ocean scientist who share these same concerns and feel it will be the case. Just sad.
-
But on the up side, days like this I don't feel so bad for wasting them at work. Plus, now you can get more than just a few hours to sleep. Gotta look at the positive.
-
sweet!! glad you are feeling more equipped...ben is pretty skinny and you are closer to my size so I don't know if his belt will work for you...I hope it does.
in two weeks, actually three cos you will be in the keys in two, I'll bring my RA and my tito gun out and you can use which ever one you want to try it for a day or a few
Sounds like a plan; looking forward to it.
-
nice Shawn...glad you got a "real" mask...just having a black skirt makes hunting sooo much easier...the low volume helps a bunch too

Yea, it is night and day really; having the old scuba peripheral lens mask squished to my face was annoying. I picked up some Tim Man pinch weights from Mako, and If Ben's rubber belt fits me along with the Cressi fins I got from you I can stop using any of my old scuba style stuff; though I am keeping the purge snorkel as I really like it. The gun is killing fish just fine so I think the next step is a new yak.
-
Hey man, thanks again for the mask; used it all weekend up to about 35' and it worked great; a definite improvement over the old one.

-
shallow runner--thanks for goin with us yesterday.
You did a good job in those challanging weather conditions.
You are welcome anytime and the next time should be easier for you now that you know the drillThanks for having me, I will definitely be joining you again soon. Being able to get out every day; you truly have it made brother. As for the weather, once I get a smaller yak it shouldn't be an issue; that monster just grabs too much wind. Thanks again.

Welcome, God to have ya.
hey was that the Ozona marina in the first pic? I am from New Port Richey now living near Ft Lauderdale.
I started as a tank diver as well but never use it anymore when hunting; just not the same.
If ya ever have room on one of those bluwater trips give me a shout, always looking for a good reason to head back home.
