I was crashed by a pair of beavers while running down along the bank of the Colorado River to retrieve some mallards we shot. The things are much bigger than you might think and definitely faster on land than I expected as well. When they struck me I was waist deep in the river and got knocked over filling my waders with December cold river water.:angry5:

I have two Riffes. I have a comp C1s and a Standard #3. I don't mind the handles at all but would be happy to help out a fellow spearo. Let me know if you want to send it out here. Hopefully for your sake you can find somebody local.

Were talking about San Bernadino County right? The largest County in all of California and likely the entire lower 48 states. San Bernardino, along with Riverside County were heavily overbuilt during the last hot real estate market. Further, as noted above, it is a big place, and while you may want to own real estate in some portions of San Bernardino County you will NOT want the neighbors that come with some of the other sections.

Know what your looking at before you waste too much time speculating.

Nice video Daniel. I didn't see near so many lobster but did find a spot outside of the reserve that was plastered with scallops. Will have to drag the skiff out someday and do some selective harvesting.

By the way,how did you handle the sculpin? I'm too afraid of them. My brother got stung years back and said the his whole side on which he was stung was in effect paralyzed. He is given to overstating things but he has taken straight to emergency by his dive partners.

I dove Laguna today North of Main Beach. Water looked really good from shore and started off good too but turned poor quickly. We entered the water after the bottom of the low tide around 5:00 PM. Lots of green particulate near the surface vis. reached a foggy 12' at best. Surf was non existent.

The best part of the dive was that we (my neighbor Bruce and I) took his son for his first dive. He is 12 years old and probably the closest thing I have to a son other than my dogs. He did fantastic in my opinion making several dives below 10 feet and comfortably diving through some of the underwater rock features. He had a great time despite the limited vis and tried his first fresh raw scallop.:thumbsup2:

You beat me to my own report??? Nice!:laughing3:

Please read my above post, :D:D;) Short answer for me.... no. but I'm sure some local may have a positive experience to share. Sometimes the fish are going to come in close no mater what you do, if you happen to have a flasher you may believe that is the draw, but in 30 years, in waters 100 miles from shore I have never
looked back at my hanging metal flasher and watched a fish take interest. Terry Mass used to have a articulating Tuna he drug around when I first dove Cortez Bank with him 30 tears ago. If he ever comes here I'll ask him if it worked in our local waters. I was @ Cortez Bank a long time ago the day a 700 # Mako was landed,
then the next trip one of my guys shot a Mako. I quit hanging bling on my body after that.;)

    Cheers, Don

:oops1::pot3: Don't know how I missed that. Haha.

Great thread. I've been thinking about dumping my Riffe stable for a while.

    Mike:

I am giving my Stable to Campillos as soon as I get a new Sporasub J. I used one at Cat. and it was the best I have ever used until I lost it due to some clumsiness. Very dry and no reservoir in the bottom to create Darth Vader gurgling noises. Very comfortable too.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Its amazing to me how the simplest piece of equipment can get so overblown in the name of marketing. Keep it simple. Also amazing is how the perfect snorkel can make such a big difference.

I was just quoting the verbatim word of another poster in this Forum and also in a page in Facebook whereas the term "silly" was used and certainly NOT by me.
I have always taken the blackout theme so seriously that I have indeed made it an imperative and crucial subject in my courses and even had invented and patented a device.
To try to minimize or diminish the importance of the teaching in depth of the blackout processes in any respectable course is almost dabbling in a potential criminal negligence. Hence my objection of the use of the word "silly" when anyone refers to this all too often tragedy among us.
Have I cleared up your question?

Seems kind of pointless to bring up a reference, "Silly", that is apparently outside of this thread and so obscure as to leave everybody guessing where it came from or in what context it was used. Were all big boys and girls here . I don't think anyone will feel outed.

Also I'm not sure what point your trying to make about the snorkel being in or out. I have never seen anywhere on your post regarding in or out that anybody suggested that it impacted SWB. The only safety arguments I've noticed were that it was argued that having the snorkel in increased the likely hood of inhaling water if it occurs while the snorkel is in. Am I missing something?

Looks like someone beat me to it. Sorry for the dup.

I like the Forschner fillet knives. Keep a sharpening steel nearby regardless of what brand of knife you buy and use it frequently. I sharpen before, after and during if its more than one medium fish.

Interesting thread. I would think that the air in the mask would contain a lot of CO2 on ascent.

Interesting comment. I would have assumed that this air we are discussing would be off the top of the lungs / esophagus whatever where there is the least exchange and therefore be the "cleanest". However, following that logic it would likely return to the same position upon re-breathing and therefore offer little oxygen value. So the best I could hope for was that it would work to dampen the vacuum effect by filling the space of the expanding lungs. All very logical in my head but could still be way off.

I do it without thinking about it now. If for no other reason than that it creates less bubbles and here in CA we are inclined to be as quite as possible and go to great pains to be silent. It was just after this past weekend when I made my deepest dive of 65 feet or so that I started thinking about its possible impact on swb. I did get a couple sips on my return and it was comforting.
