San Bernardino County .....WTF ?

  • This is not political in anyway, just an inquiry.

I have a supe who is transferring to the Fresno area and was asking him 'why' as the difference in the spending value of his dollar would drop dramatically especially in relation to real estate . He said that was definitly not the case anymore. In fact , he brought up another supe who had recently transfered here and said that Sean hadn't even put his house in LA on the market as he paid $400,000 for it, but now it was worth a fraction of that . He lives here but is still keeping his house in LA.

So I looked at a place in San Bernardino county that we have a duty station at . I looked there as I had looked at homes there before and kind of had a ballpark idea of what homes had been going for.....I was shocked at how much homes are going for there. 4 bed 2 ba 2,000 sq ft places for less than $150,000 . You can't even get a home like that here for that ,in general . What's going on out there to cause a drop by that much ?

  • It gets hot there and there is no Ocean.;)

    Cheers, Don

    We're kicking the idea around.
It's hot here and we have no ocean so we're used to that....Of course, I'd have to mothball my traps, ammo containing lead, rifles with pistol grips, etc. and so on .

But was wondering if other places in Cali have suffered such a sever real estate price hit?

  • Were talking about San Bernadino County right? The largest County in all of California and likely the entire lower 48 states. San Bernardino, along with Riverside County were heavily overbuilt during the last hot real estate market. Further, as noted above, it is a big place, and while you may want to own real estate in some portions of San Bernardino County you will NOT want the neighbors that come with some of the other sections.

Know what your looking at before you waste too much time speculating.
