It is such a refresher to just look sometimes. You see so much more since the body isn't in hunt mode. So much flies right past you when you are a hunter looking for prey. Went out with a buddy last year and he was determined to shoot a white. I saw close to twenty legals that day and he saw nothing only a few yards away.

Great video Ben. I've been slacking on my GoPro lately.

Right on man. Sounds about right. I've been that guy many times who wants a fish so bad and my buddies plugging them right next to me. Live and learn.

Nice bunch of videos. You have a real smooth style with the paddy fish. Have you tried having someone jump in behind you with a camera?

I am hoping to have someone do that some day so I can show all the people that come on my boat that you don't need to rush your shots and have the vid to prove it. I have taken multiple people out lately and most being friends. Only one guy (Paul) held off on shooting fish so I could film them. That was the video of the school of YT and Dodos where I just hung out with them. No matter how many times I told the other guys to try to relax and not shoot they just couldn't freakin resist jumping in and spooking the fish with rushed shots. One of these days I'll have someone on my boat that doesn't mind just filiming like I do and I'll see what I look like in the water:cool2: Until then I will continue to make due and film the fish before they get shot at and charged by divers.

Haha, you should've seen the guys this week when I told them to just hop in and check the paddy without a gun:laughing3: They thought for sure they were gonna screw up the whole paddy and spook the fish. Maybe that will serve as the eye opener for them on the next trip they go on.

You know, when you don't care if you actually spear a fish spearing fish becomes a lot easier:)

What rubber you running on that Aimrite Ben?

    Cheers, Don

I initially ran 2 5/8 bands then switched to 15mm. I just today switched to 5/8 bands again. I also just noticed 30 minutes ago that the shaft that I was using had the slightest bend from back to front in the downward motion. I think that had something to do with it. I will hopefully get a chance to try out the new setup tomorrow because I used to not have a problem at all.

Ok dude, back to minimizing tear offs....

No reason for a shot right there on a halibut dude. TAKE YOUR TIME and shoot where it counts. You're very lucky to have landed that fish. I say this only to help, not to be a dick. There's entire pages on your thread about tearing fish off saying to take better shots.

Polypropylene rope and bungee from home depot will do fine. I never understood the point of tube style float lines, some people call them sink lines..

You'de understand it if you dove in the thick kelp forests of California. :D

If you want a large whites seabass then use a slip tip and don't shoot all the other stuff. Shooting and loading your gun, dealing with fish and all that other commotion with assure you to spook seabass that may have just swam right underneath you. IF you are going to shoot a WSB with a flopper you better be damn close to make sure you penetrate the fish all the way and you will want to be broadside or directly above the fish. If you shoot a fish know that you can land it before you shoot it. Everyone loses fish, but if you choose you shots carefully you will be rewarded with more fish and less frustration. More importantly you will not injure and needlessly kill a beautiful fish without cause. Don't be reckless out there. Have respect for what you are hunting and the fish will come much easier.

So youre telling us all that you grabbed some LEGAL bugs and let them go as to not "rape" the ocean? Also, this spot isn't scheduled to be closed anyways. I sort of agree with your thinking but at the same time Daniel's response makes perfect sense to me.

Sorry, but I have a hard time believing that you went out and grabbed legal bugs but didn't keep them. If so than you should just leave them alone so you don't bust off their antennaes or legs unnecessarily.

My 2 cents. Thanks for the vid.

That was badass Ben, thanks for sharing. I laughed out loud when the hali dodged that shaft, I've had it happen before and I still can't believe how often they can do it :)

Haha, I believe that I missed the Hali on my own although I have had them dodge them in the past. I had that little midhandle and I have a tendency to shoot high with it. That was only the second trigger pull and it was overpowered. I downsized from 5/8 bands to 9/16 and it helped. I have figured ou how to shoot it a bit better since but still suck at it. One of the halibut in my video that I shot I actually missed first and got lucky enough to get another shot!!
