How far away was the shot Phil? That is a lot of fish to turn fast.

To the OP, I think the noise definitely makes the fish move but the completely random nature of the movement is the X factor. I guess a quieter gun is better because it might be less alarming. I notice no differnce in fish behavior between my rob Allen and my wood gun. Wood gun is way quieter but the bands still make such a force I always figured the fish heard that more than the shaft on the track

15' or so ,' wsb are very flexible, and very fast , that particular fish was just cruising with a school and in no way on edge when i pulled the trigger , i didnt know it turned until i looked at the pic later on

Phil, that's good thinking outside the box. It didn't occur to me to cut off the sleeve.

On the other hand why go to the trouble of modifying an RA muzzle, it doesn't allow routing the shooting line well, and even without this fault is not a particularly good muzzle.

simple ,its what the customer wanted , it was a older gen ra muzzle and and he liked , so thats what he got

    12oz (340 grams).
No. RA handle and muzzle are both male and female, and the space between the spigot and the sleeve is smaller than the wall thickness of the Speardiver carbon barrel. Rob Allen carbon barrel ends appear to be thinned to fit the components. This is really strange because the whole purpose of the sleeve is to enforce the carbon tube, but thinning the barrel walls to make it fit weakens the barrel. Bottom line is if the carbon barrel has good wall thickness, only a spigot will do and a sleeve is not necessary.

the ra muzzle will fit, if you cut off the outer part , and if i remember right sand down the male part a little .

if done just right ,rollers are very ez to use and very powerful . problem is most are not done right and are a pita to use and dont realize the potential of the design.

without other major modifications to a railgun just slapping a roller muzzle on your gun isnt going to make it far better gun, than it is now , it will just make it a little different than it is now

A friend, Hau, used to use Omer ice blades. I assume a different material, but same invisible effect under water

Hau's broke all the time, I hope that is not an issue you will face, but man it is odd and cool to see someone wearing invisible fins!!

the ice blade were plastic ,and crap

these blades are very high quality fiberglass , the clear the blade = almost no bubbles in the layup , to get them that clear they have to be using the infusion method . bubbles make the layup turn milky /opaque white

    phil

they have been around for years, most users are in oz ,i have never heard a bad thing about these blades i personally like blades withe a steeper angle ,but we all like what we like

Phil glad a blue water hunter of your experience chimed in... why would it have been lost? Not enough buoyancy(what bouncy do you think is needed) or crush depth? Each one of those bullets floats is 11lb of buoyancy and the middle one would be about 7-8lb I would think, for a total of about 29 lb of lift at the surface. The yellow floats have a working depth of over 500ft for the commercial applications they are used for, but the orange lobster floats wont have much lift beyond 200 ft based on my tests. Every fish behaves differently I know, but Marco in Venezuela says they use just one of those floats for big wahoo up to 80lb. I shoot 20-30 lb wahoo in Antigua which is wayyyy different than an 80lb monster so interested as to the physics or reasons in your experience this set up would fail.

just the way i saw the the fish take the 2 lobster floats down , if you let go of the float line for any reason , the fish would be down and gone , if the boat could see and chase down the floats if and when they come up you could still land the fish . im just saying you set up isnt a sure thing , as your marlin is a good example of it got away from the fisherman that hooked it .

i prefer to err on the safe side , on tuna /wahoo/billfish trips i use a 30# flotation hard float , and a riffe 2 atm float on the end of the line ,and sometimes if im really expecting big fish i will have another float behind that . to me it is not acceptable to loose fish , its one thing to use light gear flyfishing ,but for spearfishing if you shoot it it is dead , you need to have the gear to land it 100% of the time

thats small for a cortez gun , but i wouldnt let that stop you from going on the trip only 1 in 3 or 4 trips make it to the bank , you will more likely be at sci or sbi , i was there yesterday and the vis was only about 15' to 20' and your gun would work in those conditions . when i go on those trips i bring a 110cm , 55" mid ,63"mid , 68"mid , i use my 68" the most

the optimal stretch ratio is still 3 to 1 , by making the bands longer you are just throwing away power stroke , you would be better off with a thinner band that you can load at optimal stretch.
