  • I don't get it?

The US version is cut different along with the sound track, it's the one that played on the big screen here in the states.

  • In the version I have at the end he dives deep, sees the dolphins and swims away from the rope. The understanding is that he kills himself. Is there a different ending in the other version?

Yes, the last frames of the film are different. He swims away from the rope to the dolphins, than the last frames show him on the surface riding one, while one or two do flips. The viewer is left to contemplate. does he stay and go for the big swim or do his friends give a ride to the surface and a life with his girl and child some day.

  • Thanks Don.

What I enjoy most about this movie is Jean Reno's performance, he's really perfect for this role. Also the actor they had portray him as a kid. The B&W childhood Mediterranean diving scenes are also nice/nostalgic. I did watch the movie again last night and like the first time I saw it find the Jacques Mayol character to be too far fetched for my taste. I mean I can dig idealism but I keep my mind focused on the fact that the sea is not an environment suitable for men, and that I can enjoy it only temporarily. I don't think I'll be watching the Big blue again. If someone wants the DVD shoot me a pm and I'll mail it to you.
