Heinrich line release & pin

  • Yeah, I thought he was using the spear length x 3 instead of the gun length.

Actually Marco your numbers add up to 790cm which is almost 26ft.

I honestly don't know if I can hit a fish at that distance from my eyes.

Still, did you ever shoot at a fish, maybe a big fish, and the spear stopped short?

  • Can't speak for Marco, but I've had more times that I've hit a fish at range with double wrap... and not gotten enough penetration, than times my spear has stopped short with single wrap. Typically if a shot stopped short, I misjudged distance in open water and was too far to begin with. It's like the Hawaiian standard of divers starting out with a polespear - forces you to work on stalking and hunting skills rather than plinking away from long distance.

In BW, I do use double wraps with both big & small guns. For general reef diving, I generally stick with single, but go up to double on guns like my seasniper reef pros. So much depends on where you're diving, conditions, fish, etc.

  • As a random aside - I think I'd always go with the double wrap for heinrichs, just for the balance. Looks like your pin solution works fine, but I just like symmetry with my guns if possible - whether realized or visual. My OCD nature would bug me that there's tension on just one side of the shaft. :laughing3:

  • Dan, I could not see the power band on this gun so I don't know how stressed the handle is.
If you drill another hole for another pin please be careful not to reduce the structural integrity of the handle
under compression loading. It looks like a rectangle cut out is close to your pin hole, vector cracks could lead
to catastrophic failure of the handle when loading leverages are high. Chicks dig scars but some times
holes in the chest or abdomen are too painful.;)
    Cheers, Don

  • Only many years ago, BWH and super clear water. Not anymore. ;)

A bad day fishing is ALWAYS better than a good day at work.

  • Don, thanks for the warning, I'm reminded how the structural integrity of the handle could be compromised. That cut out is for the original line release which I didn't like. Still this handle has a lot of meat, it's very solid, it's not a plastic shell.
