Omer Airbalete 110

  • That's a pretty ominous avatar Don.

I'm thinking that if you can load the gun by grabbing the shaft with your hand/without a loader (is this what you're talking about?) then it doesn't have enough pressure.

I'll take down the avatar if it offends any of you.
I'm loading the gun @ 30 bar. I used to load a 140 sten @ 32 bar by death gripping the shaft and hand over hand.

  • What's a death grip Don?

My understanding from talking to guys that use pneumatics is that you ignore the manufacturer's specs and pressurize the gun to the point where you can barely load it with a loader. I believe at this point it would be impossible to load with bare hands. Maybe with a rag but if you're carrying a rag you might as well be carrying a much smaller loader. But I also understand the convenience of leaving the gun at a lower pressure to be able to load with bare hands. I'm just not sure about the power of the gun at such a pressure.

  • A death grip is just slang for a very strong bone crushing grip. I use gloves all the time here, I just wanted to see if I could load the gun @ 30 bar if I dropped the loader. I found out I could load it with wet gloves on
in my neighbor's pool while they were on vacation, but now my test's are over.;) until I hit the sea.

With dry barrel kits high pressure is not necessary as you know. We used to blow the muzzles off a lot
years ago when the over pressured big stens sat in the hot Cali sun.

I'm going use this one at 30 bar until I have a need to kit it.

  • :@

The worst part is the deck of by boat would be like a ice rink from the oil mist when I gun went off in the rack.:@

Back at the dock I would have to scrub the deck with degreaser and white vinegar....smelled like a greek
salad with out the feta cheese.

  • Didn't scare the duck with the new camo, bringing the squeeze up to 30
bar for sea trails next week. Buoyancy in fresh water with the new skin seems very close to test 1. Using the hand pump and not my tank to pressurize ( want to take my fish with muscle powered energy).
    Cheers, Don Paul

  • The handle comes of by drifting out a ss pin exposing the fill port. The gauge is Omer for the Airbalete.

  • Truly beautiful work Don. Any concern that the thermal expansion of the aluminum barrel might crack the epoxy? Or did your "Suburban" treatment cure the epoxy with the barrel in its expanded state, so that the epoxy is always under comressive stress at any temperature lowere than what you cured at?

Boy your a sharp guy, but i knew that already. I didn't want to bore the guys with the pre- tests I
did with the G-flex on different metal coatings, hard anodized aluminum, and powder coat.
I had no idea what the factory coating process on the AirB would be until I received it.
I was lucky the stock finish was as thin as black magic marker and offered little resistance to the cut of the 80 paper.
The G-flex has a very high peel and a modulus of elasticity of 450,000 psi .It is a truly amazing glue.
The top coat coat resin came from Phil Herranen who uses it for his guns and surf boards.
Time will tel, and this barrel will have to take a beating.
Tomorrow I will shoot some images of the stock slid ring metal finish and sharp line hole edges I am surprised to find on such a expensive gun. :nono:
The devil is in the details.
    Cheers, Don

Dan, I'm surprised your sharp forensic eyes have not seen what is in the shimmering water surface of the Big Blue poster.

  • I can't make out the writing if that's what you're referring to.

I just saw how faint the inscription looks on the movie poster that was signed to me by Jacque.
The late Jacques Mayol invited me to a private screening of The Big Blue to help consult on the ending.
He also sighed a 1969 Skin Diver mag from 1969 I had when I was a kid. I told him I remembered him from Miami long ago, when he worked with dolphin at the Miami Sea aquarium.
I believe his son Jean still lives there.

  • Sad ending though. Quote Dan.

So was the last days for my friend Jacques....:( He suffered with depression and took his life in Alba Italy at the age of 74, by hanging):(
