• well 4 teams remaining....germany vs Spain...............Uruguay vs Netherlands......we will have a new champion....french,italians and brazilians have been champions for to long.....germany have 3 world cups...uruguay have 2...netherlands and spain 0 cups...but uruguay and germany were champions to long ago...hope the best win...:)

  • At this stage I'm going with Netherlands and Germany.(With the Monster Slayer pick from the Beginning. (Germany to win):D

  • The quality of the Spanish players was very evident to me by the half and the kick to the chest should of been a red card. Spain clearly deserves the win. Rolo had it spot on although I though he said Spain might not have the juice to go all the way.

You are right Don. After their lackluster performance against Paraguey, I thought they would not get throught the semis, much less the Germans. However, after some of you were writing them off or telling them to get their boarding pass ready after the loss to the Swiss, I said they would still win out and qualify on goal differentials. This is surprising as never in the history of the World Cup has a country lost its first match and gone on to win it all.

I follow Spanish soccer quite a bit. This team was great in Euro 2008 and they have the best midfielders in the world. La Liga (Spanish League) is strongest in Europe today. All that being said, Spain has traditionally underperformed on the world stage. The country is culturally diverse and segmented if you will with various autonomous regions. Remember, they had a very bloody civil war not that long ago and some of those wounds exist today.

You can't imagine the controversy in the Spanish media after the first match. They were clamouring for Del Bosque (Coach), who is from Madrid to bench their CAPTAIN Iker Casillas for a goal keeper from Barcelona. Barcelona and Real Madrid are bitter rivals and the national team is dominated with players from both league squads. Look at Villa, who most of Spain's goals, holding a banner from his league club in Asturias (Northern Spain). But, no politician has been able to bring a nation like this together more than THIS team. Imagine if their strikers played well together and not hog the ball like it was the case in some of their matches, they would have coasted through the tournament.

On another note, I think I saw almost every match (Thanks DVRs) and strongly feel the best player in the tournament was Uraquay's Diego Forlan. He was awesome. Not only on his goals, but the others he assisted in. He plays for Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

I was routing for Spain as I like their players and my grandparents were born their and my wife and kid's godmother and all their families are from Galicia in the northwest part of the peninsula. I have spaniards over every summer and will spend two weeks there later in September. Hopefully, I can catch a match while there.

I'm sure the sangria was flowing heavily last night in Madrid:thumbsup2:
