The Blue Water Meet is a annual freedive spearfishing contest in which our winner is recognized for his true hunting ability.
I better give you guys a brief description to show how our meet is set apart from others.
Usually the spearfisherman that accumulates the most pounds of fish wins. In this type of competition, divers can spear multiple small fish and potentially win the meet. Conversely, the winner in the Neptune Blue Water Meet is the diver the spears the largest game fish from the eligible category of; Tuna,White Sea Bass. Yellowtail, Pacific Barracuda, or Halibut. This meet was created by the Neptune's and is run under our supervision.
There is a belief the first Long Beach Neptune Blue Water Meet held on Catalina Island in 1963 was won by the late John Modugno.
Johns White Sea Bass at 78.8 lbs was a IUSA record and was the only fish taken during the meet.
Later in June of 1964 legendary freediver Big Jim Chrristiansen won the first official Blue Water Invitational on Catalina with a 54 lb White Sea Bass.
To be Cont.. thanks
