California dragon swim

  • We gotta get that back! I remember seeing some of the pictures when I was researching the Neptunes. What a great tradition! I assumed it was still around and I was thinking about it when we were going out of Long Beach to dive Cat. Last weekend. Maybe that is something we can all work on? I am willing to write letters and show up to meetings. Let me know what I can do!

I think a local Long Beach Petition, followed up with a story in the Long Beach Press Telegram might be a great start. Many kids over the last fifty years grew up loving to see the Dragon and the swimmers braving the cold night waters. I truly miss the bonding between our older members at Dragon work party's.
I will attend a Neptune Board Meeting in 2012 to get some feedback.

    Cheers, Don

Eight years of board meetings is all a guy needs to do in a life time;).

It's great to remember the Dragon and the party's that followed, but the thought of a OSHA approved Dragon
and her storage is just one of the hurdles.

OSHA...... I would hope that crap doesn't apply. Boats are always a hazard. Some waivers for the City ought to do.

  • I like your thinking Scott, I'll step down and let Don take the reigns today. 2 years is enuff, can't imagine 8. We can definately research this more this upcoming year. I'd love to get it going again, but unless we find some serious funding, I don't think we'll be able to afford the insurance, let alone the other obstacles...

  • Post # 3 :D:D :thumbsup2:

Generations after generations of kids and parents could not wait for the Neptune's Dragon Swim. Sadly the City of Long Beach brought a end to it a few years ago. My self and other Neptune's want to bring it back in the future, perhaps without the 10'flame.:@

    Cheers, Don

No... Make it a 20 foot fireball and tow it off of Laguna Beach on 1/1/12!!!:thumbsup2:

  • When I get home I have a photo of me and my sister at the last dragon swim we went to, the second to last one. Good times. Would insurance for dinghys be more affordable? I think we could do four dinghys all in a line with parts of the dragon aboard. I'm sure that the Neptunes have four dinghys, and at four to a dink, thats 16 guys, plus I'm sure there would be more dinks along, minus dragon parts, holding LB Neptune banners, throwing candy, etc..

ill bring the matches and Av gas. It is much more flammable.

Not to mention smells great. Love filling up my buddy's plane, just not paying for it...

There is a little drain plug on every plane. You are supposed to check them to see if the drain avgas
And stop avgas from coming out. I'll post a vid from yesterday.

Yup, the spring activated check valve, do it on every pre-flight a few times. One in each wing and one on the belly. Didn't know what they were called, so I just said filling up to make it easier on everyone..
