I made a sling for myself this weekend and was wondering where you guys who sling get your shafts? I was going to look for 140-160 cm but am open to any suggestions from the pros. Thanks gang
Where do you get your sling shaft?

Are you looking for stainless steel or coated?
-
Doesn't matter. Cheap is paramount. Hahaha
-
Doesn't get much cheaper than this http://spearfishing.world/spea…rsuit-sa-euro-shafts.html If you mind the notches buy a slightly longer one and cut the back end off.
-
Could the notches really make any difference? I can't imagine any.
-
I can't see why they would. And you could use the shaft with a line if you wanted to.

I have friends who have used notched shafts. Didn't seem to matter much. My favorite shafts are the Rob Allen 7mm Hawaiian sling shafts. They are awesome, but according to mike at florida freedivers, were a special order item and are no longer available. Sucks b/c I am on my last one.
FF divers now sells a KJ shaft that is similar, but not the same. They are decent, but I will miss my RA when some fish hauls ass with it.
I have used all sorts, from pretty floppy to stout and find that the 7mm is a good all around size for speed, distance, and hitting power. If I need a second shaft in a rocked up fish, sometimes I will use the 8mm to apply a little more persuasion on extraction.

7 mm is basically the same as 9/32 which I think is a little slow for slinging. I like 1/4 better. It bends like crazy but it is fairly easy to bend back. I would think a spring steal shaft in 6.5 mm would be stronger than the 1/4 Stainless.

Awesome guys thanks a lot. I think some trial an error is in order. I am gonna get a 9/32 and a 6.5 and try them both.
-
When in doubt, go with Red Tide's advice.

I would have to disagree:D
Lol. I am now re-evaluating my game and am thinking of switching shafts. Seriously.

So had a thought. Is there any disadvantage to attaching a bungee to my sling so it stays attached to my wrist? It is small enough that it shouldn't get in the way and I don't have to worry about losing it
