Neat indeed. Based on the geographical location what kind of fish do you think is depicted? Is it fresh or saltwater?

Good question. I wish I knew the answer. That shape has been in the last three caves I have visited in the back country.Probably 20-30 miles from saltwater but near native trout streams. According to a reference book by Campbell Grant the shape is generally accepted to be a fish but no further detail is given. However, there are two coastal caves over looking the pacific that have actual swordfish paintings. Have not seen them first hand because they require military clearance to access. -

Could be marine mammals. Seals, otter , orca, dolphin etc... A lot of the art is abstract and open to interpretation. Its thought that the art is part of shamanistic ritual. The Chumash used the datura or jimson weed to induce a trance.
