Quick release Gopro mask mount

It's nice. But I wouldn't do that. Go straight into the 3 prong, it will be much less bulky.

That are parts, already available that do that... the point of this one is exactly to have it with the quick release so one can take the camera off quickly and film in a hole; pass the camera to a buddy to film you, move the camera from mask to gun; to pole; etc
thanks for your input

It's going to be harder to get two fingers between the camera and your forehead, to press the two quick release buttons together, than to unscrew the thumb screw. Try it before you move on with this project.

I have to disagree with you on that one, I don't think it is.... and if you consider taking the mask off (just adding a few seconds) it's not even comparable... much faster, no small parts that could fall and depending on the tension you have on the screw you'll need a tool for that...
But that's the kind of comment I'm looking for... what might not work and why.

Mount the camera backwards on the mount and the clips will be on the outside.
I like the idea but I think it will be in the way sticking that far forward with nothing to raise it out of view
-
If you turn it around you won't have enough room to slide it into the mount. Maybe if you take the mask off you'll be able to do it. But that defeats the purpose.

Dan,
What type of "good" masks do you recommend that will handle the gopro mounting screw.....I have a Cressi mask but can't drill a hole for the mounting screw....no spaceIhab
-
The omer Abyss mask easily takes a screw.
-
Thanks,
Any other choices.Ihab

omer Bandit is possible. Probably a few of the old style masks similar to the omer Abyss like Sporasub Samurai. Funny I was the first to do this. Now you have tutorials on it everywhere.
-
You can also epoxy a tripod mount to the mask. Works with a lot of masks.
As for the original question, I agree with Dan. The hand screw is really easy to take off I would skip the bulk added by the quick release. It will also raise the height of the camera which will increase the moment arm and make it easier for the camera's weight/drag to flood your mask or get caught on something.

Besides the fact that those quick release clips are flimsy as, i've had all of mine break the first or second time i used them!
Would not want to risk that happening mid dive.
Love your work though!

There are some good points mentioned and there's also going to be personal preference...
Some of them can only be further investigated by making one and testing it
Will see...
Thanks for your input -
Looking forward to see what you come up with

Mount arrived today and looks great...
I had the Gopro fitting confirmed with the C4 mount and the screw and nut fit is perfect...
I have a video showing the mount and release with the mask on.Video:
-
Nice. When you put it on does it pull the mask off your face?

No.
As you can see in the video, I use 2 hands but the second hand is mostly to guide the camera.
About it blocking the view, the best analogy i can think of is the nose.... You have it in your field of view but it doesn't block anything (considering an average size nose )

Please check the speargun mount: spearfishing.world/photography…gopro-speargun-mount.html

Maybe a bad run of the clips?
I had one breaking during a session... If just one clip breaks it will still be in place but extra care should be taken and it replaced ASAP.I have been testing a lot of mounts and those clips hold up really well (and I'm no using Gopro ones).
the clips are used in motocross, skydiving and a bunch of other activities that put much more stress in the mount, then going trough water at the speeds we move...
