Has anyone seen 2 barbed shafts like the one used in this video? Would like to get one for a Rob Allen
2 barb shaft

There are no carbon steel/coated shafts with that staggered barb configuration that I know of. You can easily drill a stainless steel shaft and add a barb with this jig FreediveStore.com - peardiver Spear Shaft Drilling Jig. You can't drill a carbon steel shaft because it will rust at the hole.

So with the jig, you don't need a drill press correct?. What about installing the "pins". I assume one side is flattened with a hammer?
sorry for the dumb questions, I am an electrician, not a metal worker.
Thanks,

I watched the video, that answered my questions.
Thanks.

Dan: Have you ever been able to drill a SA shaft with that Jig/drill bit combination? I'm having hard time trying to drill my shafts here. I like them to have a hole a couple inches further to the front as they act as "slip tips" when you shoot a fish and prevent them to tear off. Aditionally, it prevents a notched shaft to bend/break at the notches. I don't mind if they rust.
This picture is from a stainless shaft, but you get the idea.

Carbon steel shafts are extremely hard and require a special carbide drill bit. This kind of bit is expensive, somewhat hard to find, and very brittle. It can be used with the jig but you must be very careful and keep the jig/shaft well aligned directly under the drill press so as not to stress the bit sideways, otherwise it may break inside the jig.
Like I said drilling a carbon steel shaft for flopper hole is pointless as the hole will rust and then the flopper will no longer move smoothly. A rusty hole for your application may not matter, I don't know. Speardiver carbon steel shafts are in the works, I may add that extra hole. What is the exact position you want it? 1" ahead of the forward most loading notch?

I have one made by Rob Allen imported from South Africa. If you look on the Rob Allen website they are available in carbon steel, but I'm not sure how you'd order from there. Page 11 of his catalogue:

YES PLEASE! And if possible, place the notches/pins/sharkfins as far back as possible. That increases the band stretch a lot giving more power to the gun.
