Vintage spearguns

  • Aloha Guys,
Here are a couple of guns that I picked up the other day. I found the Jack gun at a local pawn shop and it came with a few shafts. The guy that sold it to the shop had painted it and was still using it to spear fish. The second one is a Tarzan Tahiti which I don't know much about. Any help and info about it would be great. I hope the pictures came out. Two more for the collection. Mahalo Kip:thumbsup2:

  • Aloha Don and thank you. Now if I could only read it. lol I am trying to get some history also from the owner of the Jack gun as to how he acquired it and so on. Mahalo, Kip

The 2 shaft with tabs (jack gun) are Jacks original, made with his hands. The Rife reel on it looks to be from the 70's after Jay's brother had sold the rights. It has a knurled drag adjuster knob.

That's good to know about the shafts and that there were made with his hands. I have a Samson long tom at the post office that I have to pick up this Tuesday. It`s only missing the tip and hopefully I can find one somewhere. So many guns so little money.

  • Aquahunter, congrats on the acquisition. Those are interesting pics, you should upload them to a picture hosting site and embed them in the post instead of attaching them. This way they can be viewed in original size and the details can be seen better.

What diameter shafts are with the Prodanovich gun? And what fish/hunting was it meant for?

Man I loved Tarzan books when I was a kid.

  • I will mail you a brand new Samson trigger assembly as a gift if you PM be your Address. I have have most of Herb Samson's gun tooling.

    Cheers, Don

  • Georges Beuchat had been running to the eighties the diving trademark Beuchat (created in 1934!)
He invented for the spearos a lot of diving gear innovations !!;)
first "euro" band gun in 1947
first knife attached to the leg
    first belt "marseillaise" with probe
    first wetsuit in 1953
    the legendary "Jetfin" 1964

Tarzan name was given to guns and wetsuits...
The Movie company MGM forced beuchat to give up with "Tarzan" because of film copyright...

  • 100% right and since a long time

The film "The big blue" immortalized the competition betwen Enzo Maiorca and Jacques Mayol...
I met a couple of times J Mayol on the french Riviera: an easy going gentelman
He commited suicide by hanging himself...Was told about broken heart... :(

Yes, deep depression is a killer. :(

  • Aloha Don,
I got my Samson long tom today and doing a quick check to see if you know what size threading the shafts are? I will be looking for one that fits his gun.

Herb used 3/8 and 5/16 shafts. I'll measure the threads Tues, I get brain dead when tired.
