The new builds i'm starting. Already made the laminates. The 100cm is made of a three piece purple heart and teak stock and the 125cm is made of a purple heart and mahogany stock. They will be similar to my "My interpretation of a Riffe Padauk 2S (Riffe Padauk 2S Rebuild)" build but with JBL components. Here are a couple pics so far. Will upload as the build progresses.
Purple Heart and Teak (100cm) and Purple Heart and Mahogany (125cm) Speargun builds.

Nice!

Just finished the long gun. Ended up being a 130cm gun with a 7.5mm RA double flopper square notched shaft. I made up my own style of line guide (don't know if it exists otherwise) because i personally find that the normal tab style pulls the tip of the shaft to the left, so you usually have to have your shooting line a bit slack. All of the JBL components work great and is much more conducive to a custom build vs the Riffe components. Still have to make up my bands, will use three 14mm primeline bands. Here are some pics:

First few coats of Teak oil.

All done!

Its a beautiful gun and really happy how it came out, the camera really doesn't do it justice, especially the purple heart with a 2000 git finish.

Due to comments made by my girlfriend, this speargun shall henceforth be named "The Other Woman"

Weighed the finished 130cm stock, came out to be 1.5 kg. Pretty light for a gun with purple heart. will test it soon.

It came out really nice!

no recess for the line anchor! Looks good, may it serve you well. Is that your workshop?
-
Thanks Dan! ...Haha, yep...contemplating if to recess the line anchor..not sure yet..removing stock depth for screws vs recess strength...may recess it in the future though.

Thanks Macro !

Hey Dan..Its a bit of my work shop, as well as a storage area for tools and equipment. Excuse the mess

Finished my builds just now. The short speargun ended up being a 104cm gun . I plan on using three 14mm bands with its 7.5mm shaft, i also added some width to the butt to make loading more comfortable when not wearing a wet suit, used two mahogany pieces . Really happy to finish the short gun as its for about 75% of my diving. Its intersting to see the difference in colour change between purple heart that was sanded today vs one that was sanded three days ago. Really happy how these guns turned out and theyre made up exactly how i wanted. Can't wait to try them out...When weather and covid19 allows

Very, nice. I love that purpleheart contrast, makes that gun really pop. I been shooting a purpleheart/maple for a few years and it's my favorite gun.
-
Thanks Hydroid..Purple heart is my favorite wood ...just that its really heavy and a pain to sand ...But it makes up for it in strength and looks!

Added a mag track to both builds today...Ordered the magnets a while back but got them late so had to add them post build. They work great, they hold the shaft when upside down but it falls when shaken. I used N52 magnets, size 8x3mm disc. I used seven in the 130cm due to the longer shaft and six in the 100cm , all were vertically stacked and they were epoxied in for strength and waterproofing/ corrosion resistance . They hold the shaft stronger when they are laid next to each other (greater surface area interacting with the magnets) but i stacked them vertical for esthetics. I like the look of only seeing one small magnet, plus i didn't want too much resistance on the shaft when firing. Here are some pics.
