Marko way to go. I need to quit pounding LJ there is no results there right now.
I never have luck in LJ, but there is a 5-8#er in a tide pool that I need to get out before that beach turns into a reserve..
Juan, thanks for keeping us updated! You got a good thing going over there!
Dove North County last night from 8:30-10:30pm. Really amazing conditions, over the larger reefs 20ft vis. The bugs where very light shy. Often I would drop down and just see bugs jetting off, I need to work on light control. Ended the night with two bugs, one was decent grade. I tossed back a few soft shell that if firm would have been legal. Overall I'm having a much slower year compared to last year. How is this year comparing to last year for you?

New ranger hired for C.P. He could be starting this weekend.
I liked the first ranger, the guy who came out of retirement. As for the second ranger, I was not said to see her bail after only a few weeks.
Also, what is the latest on the rope? I have not been down there for a few weeks.

I typically don't go spearing on scuba but I really want a ling..... hoping they get shallow enough to spear without tanks.
When did a dive trip to Mendo, a ling was my todo list but sadly didn't get done. I'd say just plan a North Coast trip do some camping and snail grabbing. Snails are much easier than lobsters to catch as well.
The kayakers have been nailing them, some around 60-70ft. A dive buddy swore he saw one in 15ft last week but I sort of doubt his ID. I also know a few scuba spearos that nail them all year long, mostly out of Oceanside but they are all over Loma as well.
Yo, John, This is Marco, we dove SLJ with Steve. You got any bugs lately?
Hi Kolt,
By Very soon, I hope you mean before December 12. I'll be going to the USA for Christmas.. When are you coming? Let me know and we will hunt some dinner.
Are you coming to Southern California?
Will do right before bed. I work right down the street from Dustins shop I will drop by there tomorrow and see if he is doing ok.
If he is in drop off food, cookies are always good.
I did and I found out that it is hard to grab 18" cabs with your hands. text me for intel. BTW the place I went had lots of bugs but all short. I found one but could not reach it.
Will do, my dive buddies have been doing well with the cabs but I haven't seen any over 14". The only ones I have hand grabbed are either short or sculpin... the latter tend to hurt.
sweet, did you get out today?
Awesome pictorial report!
Yes I heard you missed bidding on it after I owned it.What I paid was a small fraction of my max bid as I had to put it with Jacks other guns I have.
I was concerned some one who was not a knowledgeable vintage collector would take the reel off or steel wool the parts. I later drove to SD as I didn't want the owner to ship it, the reel is priceless to me. Now I have the long road of peeling back the layers of it's ownership. It had to be some one close to jack. I would like to show it to Marty P.
Cheers, Don
Well I guess you owe me a beer because if I would have bid more, it would have cost you more..
I had no idea about the reel, glad it found a good home.
Schools of 5-8# sheephead seen just north of Hogans. Enter at Hogans, swim north a few hundred feet, line up on the south end of the white house, (which is north of the tan house). About 100 yards offshore it gets real shallow, like 8ft on high tide. Work the seaward side of these rocks, found a 20# the other day and there were more to be had. Only 9 weeks left to get them....
Yes 4" and 35 is the daily limit! Where are you diving where your only seeing shorts? I havent seen to many under 4". No joke the spot i have been diving the last two days has 25 5-7" crab per rock. You can just flashlight em into your bag or grab there back two legs and they wont get you. I was told by a fellow spearfisherman who use to catch them commercially that they would break the claws off at the 2nd knuckle and throw them back in cause they respawn there claws? Havent actually read anything about it though or how well that crab can survive with no claws?
WOW maybe I'm not looking in the right spots. I normally get bugs in North County even thought I live closer to La Jolla. It seems like a crabs+ banks board would be a good combination.
Sam, nice haul! You can't get PM's.. I am headed out to low tide bug on Point Loma... Not sure where you went but if you are in SD let me know
thanks
Last time I went for rock crab it was a 4"minimum size across the carapice and a limit of 35. Not sure if the rules have changed. You need to have a measuring device.
Thanks I thought it was 4", I never see them that bug so I don't worry about it.
what are the regulations on those crabs?
thanks
