  • Building a speargun

    The enclosed track supposedly has a vacuum-like effect on the shaft as it leaves the gun. With an enclosed track having a smaller opening on top (smaller than the diameter of the shaft), it's harder for the surrounding water to rush in and fill the void of where the shaft was sitting.. making the exiting shaft actually expend energy by sucking water into the now empty enclosed track.

    It was just a 50ft tag line attached to one of the kayaks. I have trouble getting into my comfort zone in bad surface conditions, I find it a lot easier to get into the relaxed mental state when I'm holding onto something. The waves were pretty huge, every 7th or 8th one was at least 6 ft, possibly more.

    I didn't launch into massive surf and eat 3 waves before rolling my kayak and filling it with water, I have no idea what Steven is talking about. The vis was the worst I've dove in this year, but the fish were there and that's all that really matters. We had about 10-12 ft horizontal vis on the bottom, but the Gopro has a way of making it look better.

    Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If Steven wanted an Abellan handle on it, I would have gladly done it, but he wanted the AR handle. I understand how the angle, ergonomics, and all that good stuff can help with accuracy and recoil.. but at the same time, I first started diving with Steven when he was using the atrocious mako predator handle. He still got fish, every time. This was my first time playing with the AR handle, and to be honest the look kind of grew on me. Then again, I'm an American with inherent bad taste.

    Yep, I meant sunk/recessed into the buttpad, not actual countersinking screws, bad word choice.
    Edit: How far in should I sink them? I don't want Steven to be able to feel the screws while loading, the flip flop sole will compress a bit when the bands are pulled. Think 3/8" clearance over the head of the screw is enough?

    Exactly what I was thinking, as soon as I realized the epoxy didn't bind well to the flip flop.. but all I had was white 5200. Going to get some in black, along with a couple countersunk screws it should be good to go.

    Searching for Sugar Man. It's a documentary about a Motown era singer who sold virtually no records in the US, however somehow his music made it over to South Africa. His music was more influential for the South Africans than that of the Beatles to the US. Many South Africans attribute the reform to the influence of the Sugar Man. Crazy thing is, the actual artist had absolutely no idea that his music was so appreciated anywhere in the world. The documentary is about a couple people from South Africa tracking him down through lyrics in his songs. It's great, I really enjoyed it.   • Dive Knives

    I've been thinking about that RA knife for a while, I didn't know it existed until I saw it in a shop. Been meaning to buy one for quite a while, but with almost every piece of gear i have falling apart, it was shuffled down to the bottom of the priority list. It will fit your forearm, I tried it on without a wetsuit, and it fit snugly on the forearm but I wouldn't necessarily call it small.. more of a primary size knife than a backup. I've never been a fan of the buckle style knife straps, don't know why really, just don't like them. I'm curious as to how well the elastic holds up over time. Let us know your impressions after use Hau.

    One of the guys I was diving with today saw a manta ray, I got pretty pissed.. been diving literally my entire life, without ever seeing one. Then I log on Speardiver and you see a god damn naked chick swimming on the reef, I've never seen that either. I'm obviously doing something wrong, somebody fill me in.
