the volume difference (due to the crush) don't seem to be big or am I missing something?
Could you share what were Don's "awesome alternatives that were quite DIY" (or just point the post were they're at
)?
thanks

(...)but also the seam where the high pant ends creates just a tiny air space in the suit right there. That spot fills with water over the course of a dive and put cool water exactly where you don't want it if you plan on being in 45* water for a couple of hours. (...)
with the suspenders, that air gap would be under the arms and in the chest and back exactly in the areas where you feel cold the most...
I've used farmer john's but now have a custom Polosub Forza Tre... I only feel wet in my hands, face and feet... Just fro reference, (as everybody feels different) was yesterday almost 6 hours in 15ºC with a 5,5mm...
In my case over kill is having a gun like 10cm (4 inch) bigger then the ones other are using and having 2 bands instead of just 1...
I used to feel that way as well. I prefer the minimalist approach now.
Just a knife then <img src= " height="23" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x">

That's a hard thing to do. My 130 railgun pretty much fills that purpose but it has it's limits as I found out the hard (and rather disappointing way) last weekend.
While diving a rig in 200' of water for Amberjack, I dove down and saw a big shadow coming out of the murk. I figured it was a big AJ and then noticed the 3' long sickles:@ Two monster yellowfin tuna! Kicked as long as I could until I felt that they were in range, (and also at the end of my breath-hold)and fired, only to have the shooting line reach the end of it's length and "kiss" the fish:(
We can never be prepared for all the "what ifs".The best thing to do is prepared for what's most likely to be there.
Some friends ask me "why all that power?"
I will always say that I prefer to loose a small fish because I'm overpowered then losing a big one because I'm underpowered
I use a stringer attached under the board so the fish remains underwater... no sharky issues here....
no pic ![]()
benthos are also on my favourite list...
check this one out: Exxon Valdez ‹ Benthos
Clean lines and as mentioned just flows....
I'm with Tufual's father... some guns are just a rounded block (with really bad handles)
some have a functional and beautiful shape
(...) Having wasted about 5ft of Speardiver small ID 16mm rubber in the process, hence the frustration.
(...)
those bands can be used on smaller euro guns... (with the adapters) or:

Please do when you have a chance.
Here it goes:
I even did it with an american notch spear ![]()
I tried to replicate the steps in Perfection (Angler's) Loop | How to tie the Perfection Loop | Fishing Knots
I've never done this knot before and would like to know how good is it...
You'll end up with a big loop but you can adjust it's size
when I untied it, I saw that it can me made easier and with the loop of the correct size...
I have tried to make it happen in te past. I would need to see your method
Ok, I'll make some pics with the spear, replicating the animated knot
Can't use that to attach a spear because you have to pull the loop through the knot.
It's just a matter of having the spear in the right position (should be already in the line) while doing the knot
anyone tried this one:
Perfection (Angler's) Loop | How to tie the Perfection Loop | Fishing Knots
I've read that it should be one of the strongest loop knot...
John I know your one of the better speros and shoot big fish regularly, so very interested that it hasn't been a issue with the bowline on spectra costing you 60-70% of the breaking strength.
does the bowline costs 60-70% of breaking strength (leaving only 30-40%) or the end strength is 60-70%?
Maybe not always, check the close-up photo of the notches on speargun number one!
Notches were easy to cut with a hacksaw, so that is how shafts were made originally.
I meant for production line in factories...
thanks for the link
Looks like Daryl got his shafts right!
it could still be moved more to the back.. not a lot, but why not? ![]()
Maybe the reason for the spacing between tabs is to give a wider degree of power options. (...)
And how about those obnoxious band notches so common on euro shafts?!! They weaken the shaft AND do damage to dyneema wishbones! I go with the mini shark fin tabs for my rail guns!
Does that help
Aloha
that's a good point but doesn't explain why some have the first notch/pin/fin so distant from the mech
Short answer: Cheaper to produce.
did you inquired the factory why they were made that way? It could be one of those cases "We always did it like this... and nobody asked for it differently"
Hey Dan so how about your shafts?
