Diving Geko there are multiple ways of doing this. I will have to get back to you when I make a video.

:@:@:@ :thumbsup2: One day you wana do a wahoo clear water gun for me?
Cheers Dude George, I would love to.
I am heading away in 2 days time to chase some spanish and hopefully a wahoo. -
WOW... Flawless as always Darren
You really have nailed these handles.Great to see you again my friend. How have you been mate?
I am happy with these handles, they feel really nice in your hand.
-
A mate wanted a slightly longer version of my Deep Reef gun.
Neptonice wide body reverse mech, custom timber handle.
2 layers of carbon and one of carbon glass blend.Too many hours but I am happy with the final product.
It was not planned as a rear plus, the butt was going to get cut down but Chris really liked the way it felt so it measures about 1780 over all. Great for the clear warm waters of the East Australian current.

Solarcomposites are great if you are in the US. I have bought from there and found I had to buy a large quantity to make the postage reasonable. (I am in Australia)

Amazing work! How did you get the carbon fiber to lay so evenly? Fabric/or sleeve? Vacuum bag?
Nice job on the handle as well, for a second I thought it was an old OMER cobra handle/mech assembly.:thumbsup2:I use a vacuum bag set up. I use a combination of carbon and carbon / fibreglass materials.
Cheers mate.

Hey Teaspoon (and others).
I know this post is old, but I just went through a ton of your stunning guns. Well done!
Sorry for the late reply. Thank you very much.Quote from Diving GekoHave a quick question in regards to the handles. How do you do them?
I'm guessing silicone smeared on? Two-component or just the stuff out of a tube?
Any tricks on the the smearing part itself?
Eg. back in the day when I did a bit of small boat repair, soapy water on the finger tip was a pretty rock'n roll trick for making/shaping epoxy glue lines smooth fast.I used polyurethane on these handles and after 2 years it still does not require any maintenance.
When I tried these the handles felt super slippery with my new dyneema gloves. So I used Sika 310ml Sikaflex Pro Polyurethane Adhesive Sealant in a caulking tube. Moved it around with a paddlepop stick (small flat stick) till I was happy it filled all of the voids. -
Rigid Inflatable Boat. I believe.
I used them in Malaysia and we went 20 miles out. They're really stable as long as you don't get a hole in them.
The previous owner of this boat went hooning around without the pods attached! Water covered the deck when he stopped but it would get on the plane in seconds.
I have foam filled the hull for a little additional security.
Hypalon is a more durable material for the pods. PVC pods (like this current one) is a little easier to damage but are easy to repair on the fly.

That's what I was getting at, for me even a small boat is better than a pwc. That's why I went with a RIB.
Teaspoon, I love that rack it's great use of space, and considered it for my RIB but figured it makes entry from the transom more difficult. What's it like?
Even before I installed my rack I never entered over the transom. I have a grab rail in the console that some divers use to get in. RIBs are one of the easiest boats to enter and exist the water I have been in.
-
Ok I have to make a confession. .... I didn't know what an RIB was. I looked it up and it definitely looks promising. I'll look into it some more.
Hey shallow, how far out would you consider taking yours?Sorry for my late reply, work, holidays and and Dengue fever has seen me time poor ATM.
My RIB is only 4.2m with a 40Hp 2 stroke. With the custom 45lt tank including the internal 15lt reserve I cover 20Km each way if conditions allow. I head to the FAD as often as I can.
It is good for only 3 divers plus gear and eski. Easy to launch and retrieve solo.
Because it is so easy to live with, I often take it out only 10 minutes from shore for those quick splash and dash dives.
Is it the best boat for all conditions? No.
Is it one of the best bang for your buck spearing platforms I have been in? Without doubt. -
At a rigging shop they use a "hot knife". Its an exacto blade in a soldering iron.
I use wire snips and a butane lighter.
-
There are three at come of the comps I go to. I did see one of the overturned and gear everywhere but there were 3 guys on it at the time and they blitzed everyone from the start.
I love my RIB. More space for the gear and a bigger eski.

I have been using this float for 5 years along with a handful of other floats.
My observations:
Positives:
- Very durable. Mine has been dragged across barnacle covered rocks and even over oysters countless times. Its scratched up but has worked flawlessly.
- Tows very well.
- Comes with a counter weight and a flag. I added a lanyard to the flag as I had lost a few over the years.
- I think it is good value for money
- It has eventually arrested Yellowtail Kingfish up to 25kg without issue, even when it was taken under 10m it did not lose its shape.Negatives:
- The webbing the shark clips attached to are now buggered and I will be buying another float (same type)I do not use this one when I am blue water hunting. I use inflatables for that. Much softer on the noggin.;)

Cheers Marco.
The higher the handle position the more inline the forces and less rotation is experienced.
Mid handles have a few more limitations than rear handles but one of my next mid-handle guns I am going to address this this (or at least attempt to but may come down in flames). -
Thanks guys.
Regarding surfboards I have yet to make one. But as for surf spots we have world class point breaks here but when some of them are going off my butt is on the shore watching board getting snapping in 18 foot waves.

This is an oldie but interesting land based shark fishing in Australia

A mate of mine wanted a Deep Reef but wanted some red splashed over the carbon. We came up with the concept of a ghost flame and a cheeky pole dancer.
-
A mate asked me to have a look at one of his Koahs (He has a number of them) This larger one had the same band stretch as a much shorter gun. He wanted to make use of the extended butt and relocate the mech much further back. He also wanted to make it a mid handle.
I stared by removing the hardware and sanding the gun back to bare timber. Then removed the existing enclosed track and planned the remodel.
Lamination of an additional section to house the pushrod, moved the handle forward and poured a new track.
A splash of colour at the rear with leaving the first 2/3rds timber as he prefered.

Roller head is a Mannysub: Homepage - Manny Sub
Very easy to install and comes as a complete kit including rubbers. I currently have an outer ear infection so I did not get to test it out yet. He is a dive buddy and I will get a chance next time we go out.
-
It will be rigged up later this week. I will add some more photos then.
I am looking forward to taking the targets down and testing this out.
Unfortunately I lost my flat lens housing so I won't be recording it.I will have to get another Hero2 case.
