its bad news to hear that asesino is not allowed on this forum anymore.
i hope this decision have not been made in a rush , while this thread was turning very emotional. probably a little patience to let the situation cool down to see if people come back to their senses would have been an option?
but just to make make this clear, i do understand and accept dan"s decision.
the personal accusing of other spearfishers wrongdoings (right or wrong) in a public forum and specially this forum, is not acceptable. as i believe a world wide known rule:
wash your dirty cloth at home ! asesino, you should know better.
but obviously there are some issues concerning the different views or opinions on spearfishing between some recreational and commercial spearfishers.
and to me these can be discussed, and since this is a freedivingspearfishing-forum with recreational and commercial spearfisher-members, this sure is the place to do so.
of course this should be done with respect and care, because in the end we all want to continue spearfishing to the max.
living the life of a comercial spearfisher is not easy.
you will develop your very own views and opinions at what you do.
the much respect and apreciation you will get from other spearfishers ,
the much critics and rejection you will get from others.
i just hope asesinos ban in this forum had nothing to do with telling his opinion on these issues.
i do hope that dan has left him the backdoor open to come back here, and i hope asesino will do what is requested to open that door again.
    respect bro !

i dont find this video very special. specially the camerawork is very poor.very bad timing, shaking, and completely missing the action. i dont understand how come that they making a promotion video for their gear with a worldclass freedive spearfisherman like pipin, and they cant get a good cameraman,or better two. considering that this is pipin diving, the dives wasnt that long or deep, and the shots wasnt very long shots neither.
with good cameramen and some better editing, this video could be much better.
but as it is, its nothing more than a normal/good youtubevid.
btw, how come they have the flopper on top of the spear ?

i also lost a few knifes already so i only buy the cheapest workingknifes for about 5.-dollar, and fit them into one of the remaining knifepockets i have.
but your knife sure looks very good.:thumbsup2:

a friend of mine tried to prepare the skull of a 50pound barra last year. first he tried to remove as much meet and skin as possible with a knife. then boiling the skull, and after with a fine knife, brush and other fine tools working it again. the skull fall apart. i dont remember while or after cooking. but the thing was that the skull is been hold together by meet and skin. once you start removing that the skull will fall apart.
he cleaned all the bonesparts and finally glued back together the skull. looks pretty nice.
    but hell of a puzzle-work.

the grouper is a red hind. common 2-3 pounds max.about 6-7pound. found mostly on shallow reefs 20-100ft
most times they are very curious and easy to shoot. tend to swim into their caves when closely approached but remain close to the cave entrance and watch out. so good to see in "oceans in action 2", in the bahamas part. a close relative is the rock hind. looks very similar, but have 1-3 black dots on top of the tail behind the dorsal fin. this fish is really hard to see, and to shoot. very skittish. best chance in v ery deep waters.
both of them taste very good.

    dan,
i will try to explain the situation a little. beeing said he is from austria, a country with no connections to the sea,an alpine country, located in the middle of europe covered with snowy mountains, and very closely related to its big neighbour germany.same language, culture, history. in both countrys spearfishing is not allowed, and no way you could buy even the smallest speargun in a shop.the big european brands, cressi, mares, beuchat etc., all making two sets of their equipmentcatalogues. one with all the spearfishing gears for the mediterranean countrys, and one for germany, austria, switzerland, without the spearogears.
since the sixties, germans and austrians started doing their summer holidays along the mediterrenean coast, and observed on crowded beaches some fool locals,or tourist, walking along the beaches displaying some minifish or octopus and their spearguns. this picture is up to today very presnt in german or austrian society.
if you make it public in these countrys that you do spearfish, you will get some harsh comments and reaction.
so even there is a big freediving szene with worldclass athletes, clubs, competitions, websites, you will hardly ever hear anybody outing himself as a spearo.
i remember some years ago, somebody wanted to pep up a local freediving competition with a targetshooting in the pool with a pneumatic gun. the man got some pressure from the szene.
but you right, in the med.countrys its a complete different szene.part of their history, well accepted and organized.

i think i will start a new thread one of these days about underwaterfilming.
since last week i spending a lot of time on the computer(wich is not my favorite thing) editing my filmingmaterial from summer 2008 when i ve been few weeks to santa maria, azores islands. the goal is to fit everthing into a 60-90 min. movie.
so watching all this material again and again, my eyes getting more critical. and i wish i would have a few more quality, sensational shots rather then all that "ok"stuff.
i observed the same effect on underwaterfilming as on underwaterhunting. the more i do it, the higher i want to push the level. the big monsterfish i got under hardest conditions will stay in my memorys forever.
and i could tell anyone the story. but having the opportunity to share that great expirience with others in a movie is a fantastic thing. i love watching underwatervideos, so i will always encourage evrydiver to do some great filming. how nice would it be today to watch some movies of jack prodanovich, the pinders, or some tahitiens 50-60 yers ago spearfishing. they didnt had the opportunity we have today.
anyhow, rolo, the problem in a boat with other exited divers is not new. who want to take the damn cam ??
you did it, and did a great job! again, thanks for sharing, and bring more.:thumbsup2:

thats some serious fish. aprecciate always when people going to dive, carry and use their camera. specially if they do some underwaterfilming. its a great way to share the impressions of the environment you dive and hunt in, with others. nice pics and vid man !
but i personally not such a big fan of cam mount on gun.
i find it much more interesting filming other divers stalking and shooting fish. or just leave the gun in the boat for once and just film the fish and environment without having a gunpoint in the vid. also interesting to see that the fishes sometimes behave much different towards you if you gliding down with just a cam and no gun. or have you ever tried to put your cam in one hand and gun in the other? that style definetely gives you the most creative opportunities in underwaterfilming/hunting by yourself. of course its a bit tricky to handle the multitasking, and you have to be able to equalize without use of hands.
    keep it up

good catch. its nice when you have friends coming, and you actual get perfect diving conditions to show them all the beautys of your homewaters.
sure a memory of a lifetime for them.
