dan- the snorkel in the mouth is dangerous because it will over come your bodies natural drowning defense which closes you throat until your terminal gasp---the snorkel opens your jaw and thus allows the water to push down your soft pallate and flood the lungs.

[edit]- just saw that you added an answer

    I don't go over 90' with out a spotter I'm old.;)
    Don

I am a diving noob, and I didnt know you were supposed to take the snorkel out of your mouth when diving. Noted... but why?

So you spit out the snorkel before taking your last breath on the surface before the dive?

So only use the snorkel when your scouting for the fish? Find the fish, spit out the snorkel, take your last breath, then dive... right?

I remove the snorkel after my last breath, if you keep it in you will hear Blump.Blump...Blump when the
    air in the tube escapes.

I put the snorkel back in my mouth just before I surface and release a small bubble into it, if you time it right 90 %
of the water will be cleared as you brake the surface.

Don, that's crazy with any gun, but more so with a pneumatic. What was the reason for keeping them loaded? They load pretty fast in any case.

I dive 60 to 100 miles off shore with a live boat and when you jump into a boiling bait ball you need to be cocked
and ready to rock when the boat pulls away. I was with a very famous diver once as a 250# Blue fin swam around him on the surface until the last band was cocked. I run 3 to 4, 5/8 bands on by game gun.
and when we are chasing birds and bait you have to stick and move a lot.

Always loaded pneumatics on board :0 :)

You'll have no arguments about the short range penetration power of a pneumatic from me. I shot through a turtle shell once with that old Cyrano 970. Another advantage is the shafts are cheap or easy to make.

You bet Dan.. I had a Rack on my port stern corner that held the the gun muzzles up and slightly angled aft.
The only guns that ever mis-fired were the big 14O stens when my friend pumped them too hot and left the
plastic muzzles cooking in the hot Cali sun.:0:0 One time a sear failed while we were having lunch sending
a 8mm shaft and barrel into a low oribt.:0 Most of this all ways happened far off shore so we were the only ones at risk.

I will still use my 100cm pneumatic for hole gun and shooting big fish with a second shot. The 8mm short shaft is unbendable! Ask Davie how well the 100cm pneumatic penetrated the head of a 60lb cobia. It went through it like butter!

I will use my pneumatic to put a second shot in any big fish.

Me too... I still have a Mares sten 140 that was built for the Italian world team, it's killed tuna with on problem
even with out the Mamba Wamba.:D:D
I used to test dive with a engineer from Scuba Pro, when it gets cold here in Calli I'll tell some very funny storys
about the always loaded 140 stens on board.
    Cheers, Don

my wishbones were too long but i will test again more rubbers from him. Which rubbers did you test from him?

I used 5/8 Mori mean green for a few years on my Double gun, however his first batch years ago had possible
curing issues as the band would fail prematurely, elongation was @ 300%.

This year I got some his 15mm from friend it shoots very smooth @300% . I always pre stretch my rubber @
@ 275% for 24 hours, and let them recover for 8 hrs before final cut.

    All the best, Don Paul

Hi Jeff, I'm thinking that the gun builder flamed the art with a torch to produce the blue patina. I have a wood
gun I built in 84 that had alfa grade Ti bits that I blued, but it has worn off over the years.
    Cheers, Don

Nice looking gun Greek, and I see you know what your doing with the band elongation.
Mori has always had some of the best rubber I have ever tested.

That's a cool greet, very appropriate for this forum. I'm weak on sea fairing terminology so it caught my eye. Welcome to the forum Don. A freediving spearfishing forum doesn't feel complete without a CA section so lets have a report to put there :)

Thanks for the warm reception Pargo and all the others, but please don't count on me for a CA section report
until next spring, if the albacore get within 100 mile range I may get wet again. I have a little room in my freezer
for some bugs but the little cock roaches and all the butter are not that good for ya.

It's really good to see Tin Man, Griswold and Dragon Slayer here as I enjoy seeing their craftsmanship and
    the good-natured posts.

I've lived on the edge in the blue water for 30 years, but I have lost 22 friends here and around the world so I will not hesitate to give you my opinion if I can help someone not F-up.

    All the best, Don Paul

I'm native from the French Riviera... and I began spearing as a little boy!
Spearfishing practice began there in the early thirties
Almost "modern" technics used by spearos were improvised and improved by local South of France spearos
the first american book writen by a US spearo was by Guy Gilpatric in 1934: " The Complete Goggler", at the time he stayed on the french Riviera and observed french colleagues there.

I read this book when I was 8 years old and it led me to my first breathhold dives in a very cold Connecticut lake. I need to buy it again some day, but they are big bucks if you can find one.

Hi Guys, ok... I'm not going to lie, I came over here because I like the Bikini Section along with a little freedive BS. I live in Cali, I began blue H2o freediving in 1980 in French Poly,I was past pres of the Long Beach Neptunes in 1986, I've held IUSA Twenty first century records for Wahoo and Dorado.

In 1988 worked on the film Blue Water Hunters with T.Mass and Laslo Pal in Tahiti and Rangiroa ( I'm the guy getting saved from SWB by Terry).I was safety diver in the Grey Reef feeding frenzy shots, I've lived thru 28 dive adventures to French Poly and the Cook islands. I have always fabricated by own guns. I live on speared fish, vegetables and Guinness.:toast:..... Ok, I'm off to check out the Bikini Babes.:thumbsup2:
