Finish my bluewater gun

  • At last, I receives this week the 3/8 shaft, band material and the upgrated kitto trigger, from last pic I add more lead and change some other stuff, gun is 62" long teac, 10.8 pounds, 4 - 3/8 bands, enclose track, heimrich release(that is so simple and efective).

Yesterday I got the gun wet and shoot it few times, no muzzle flip, recoil was minimum and it shoots like a lazer, made shots on the 15 - 18 feet and the shaft pass the target like butter, 20 -22 foot and the shaft pass the target, I am very happy with the outcome of my second gun and hope to get some fish soon.

Ps I allready pass the router on the gun foam butt, now my next gun would be, euro or hybrid:confused1::D.

  • That is called a snubber, is an easy way for a break away release, the bungie or floatline is connected to the line and shaft, is use mainly on bluewater.

  • Very nice Pucho, I like that you set your handle high, closer to the shaft center line, I run my brake away the same way.

  • Thanks Don, that help me out a lot with the recoil of the gun, I made this gun after a year of reading and asking questions around, I try to make a design on wood of a "light" 4 band gun without lots of mass so it can move underwater easly with minimun recoil and flip and I think I nailed it in my first try :excited1:

Now I only need a slip tip, also I would like to get an 11/32 shaft for this gun to see the difference.

  • Oye Pucho nice gun! Maybe I'll visit you one day and see it in person since I work in Aguadilla every once in a while....:thumbsup2:

  • Very nice gun Pucho. I agree with the premise of getting the grip as close to the plane of travel of the shaft as possible. One little touch that I would add since you went with the Heinrich release, which I like as well, is put a pin in the spot I marked in red. You'll gain an inch of band stretch on all the bands and it will be easier to string the shooting line because you can make the pin as tall as you want.

  • Tin Man the finish is 4 hands of teak oil, the wood i just went and select it from a nice pile at a lumberyard I like pattens on the wood, will take some pics of the bottom it has some nice desings, yes shapelock is great.

  • Well I know you're good with tools so what's the problem? Just find a SS pin and drill a hole with a metal bit that's slightly smaller than the pin. Use slow revolutions with the drill and some kind of oil. Heat the back of the shaft a little and tap the pin in, it will never come out once the shaft cools down, plus there's hardly any pull from the shooting line. You can bend the pin to an angle that facilitates the shooting line coming off when the shaft moves forward. Or you can drill the hole on an angle in the first place. Just don't load the bands on it by accident :)

  • Then the shooting line won't come off until the bands lets go of the tab. I read that it works but I wouldn't take a chance. I also read that it works with the shooting line wrapped on the tab in front of the band tabs.
