What a tuned flopper looks like

  • This is a vid I made to show what tuned flopper looks like. The premise of a tuned flopper is that it will open easily to a certain point, then once pulled open further it will not close again on its own.

The first part shows that the flopper will open slightly from it's own weight and close easily as it should when the spear leaves the gun. Upon impact with a fish the flopper will open to the sticking point. Then when the fish pulls on it the flopper will open to the maximum position where vibrations from the struggling fish will not close it.

  • Dan---great video---Thanks for making it for us. ( I kept waiting for you to slap the tree with the spear:D )
Now if you could give us a tutorial on how to ADJUST the flopper / flopper pin so that the end result is as in your video "What a tuned flopper looks like". I"m serious as I plan on taking all my floppers off and remounting them.
Thank you for the video Dan:thumbsup2:

  • When I shoot floppers I tune them by pinching the area above the pin with a pliers until it hangs when
open 1/2 way. I would use valve lapping compound smeared under the flopper/shaft edge and work it back and forth
until the flopper falls closed freely.Disk brake spray will clean the compound off between fitting.
    Cheers, Don

  • Its there another thread about flopper tuning or is this the only thread? I wanted to share it with a friend of mine who is having issues with his flopper. I tried the search but I didn't find one that actually showed the tuning process.
