Riffe Hawaiian

  • A Riffe Hawaiian is being offered around here with a killer price. Do you have any input about this guns? It seems to be the same size of a comp 3, which is a great gun.

The bands seem too short and the shaft too long thou...

I am in need of a justification :D

I like that gun, a lot of my friends love it. I shot one about about ten times .

  • Buy it. Try it. Sell it if it is not for you. I have 8 riffes in my quiver. NEVER had an issue ever with the guns. My buddy uses the Hawaiian for inshore wsb and does well.

Ya, do it... that strategy has worked out GREAT for me so far... :laughing3:

Riffes are good guns in that they're dependable and solidly constructed. That being said, aren't all your mid-handles modified Mike? I seem to recall that you had wing kits of different types on most if not all of them. The mid-handle range has a relatively small stock for the recommended band/shaft configurations. Whereas guns like the Riffe standard series are nice right out of the box, the mid-handles often take a bit of tweaking or underpowering to get them to shoot right.

So, in all seriousness - IF it's really a great price and you have disposable income, then go for it. Just know that it may not be as balanced as the comps/standards/euros.
The one great thing about buying/trying used Riffes - they hold their resale value very well. :)

  • One more quick note - the Hawaiian is relatively short at 50"... so the small stock isn't as much of an issue as with some of the longer Riffe mid-handles. With a shorter shaft, it could be a very effective dirty water shoredive gun for down there. ;)

  • I sold quite some guns recently and I have just 2 right now, so I have the dough for toys :) The gun is 350 o.b.o. So it´s a killer price, since they run for as much as 680 new.

Yeah. exactly. I added mass to my mid handle guns and powered them down. Keep in mind that I am a lowly shore diver and most of my shots are no more then 10ft off the muzzle. Two 5/8th bands .Sometimes a third 9/16 band. Less is more I guess. I've only bought one new riffe. I tend to buy them from people who have given up on the gun or think a different gun is going to get them more fish. I am also a big advocate of target shooting as a means of problem solving.

  • I am with the less is more philosophy myself. I think that a gun like the hawaiian should be great with either 2 5/8s and a thiner shaft, say 9/32. Maybe 3 9/16´s. No need of wings. Some lead ounces in the handle do the job as well.

  • Hard to comment on price, since we're not really up to date on how the used speargun market is down there... but it'd be a good price around here. Riffe's suggested retail price is so high that the used price is usually about 40-60% or so of retail, but that used price is pretty consistent. For example, a Riffe comp2 is ~440 or so (very rough estimate), but the standard used rate is ~200-250. But if you buy a used riffe comp2 for 225... you can probably sell it a year or two later for the same price! :)

Used prices are generally higher for Euro guns, since they're newer & not as much supply around. But again - used prices down there may be completely different, so not necessarily apples to oranges comparison.

Does it come with a shaft & slip-tip or flopper shaft or...?

Sounds like you want it & just looking for us to say "buy the damn thing!" :laughing3:

Value is ultimately in the eyes of the beholder - if you want it, get it. ;)
