Just Ordered my First Set of Freediving Gear!

  • I've starting training in the gym. Doing some intense running and breathholding, weightlifting and building up my legs/abdominal section too. Planning to start training in a pool at LSU that the Swim Team uses if me and my friend can get approval to do so.

Here is a List of what I got (Keep in mind I'm just getting start so I didnt buy the latest and greatest):

    1) Picasso BlackTeam Fins 44/46
    2) Riffe Naida Clear Mask
    3) Riffe Stable Snorkel (I know I know)
    4) 2mm Freediver's socks
    5) Large fin keepers
    6) Rob Allen Weightbelt

I have weightbelts for my scuba but I want one for freediving and one for scuba.
Planning on getting a Mako Blue Camo 3mm Wetsuit and a Manta Scuba/Freediving Computer Watch later on. Getting all of this is pricy.... so I'm buying it in sections.
I know some will be mad I got the Stable Snorkel but hey if it isnt all that I want, I'll switch. I really liked the design and think it will work for freediving/scuba. It is expensive but I think I'm going to get my $$$ worth.

I'm really really excited and hopefully I can dive the Aqua Aces Freediver's Rodeo this year I'm happy and can't wait to get in the action.

  • Properly fitted footpockets don't require fin keepers. They're only 5 bucks so it's no big deal. But they annoyed me after I got them and never used them.

When and what is the aqu aces rodeo?

It's was a Freediving Tournament established by scuba/freediving spearfishing club in Metairie, Louisiana (pretty much New Orleans) called the New Orleans "Aqua Aces". The tournament last year was a great success and griswold is building the 1st place winner Keith Love's custom gun.

As of now they dont have a set date for the 2010 Aqua Aces Freediving Rodeo. Here's a website for future reference Dan. http://www.aquaaces.net/index.php

I plan to dive the Rodeo this year if I am not working at my chemical refinery those days. Here are some pictures of Rok's Alligata Gar I took when we were diving in Lake Ponchartrain that sunday.

I told Rok we need a bada$$ picture of him and the gator showing off their teeth and this is what we got!

  • The Louisiana rigs scuba spearfishers are the only scuba spearfishers I respect. Part of the reason is that it's an artificial structure that will never be completely depleted. Thanks for the pics, Rok's hard core.

Yeah... that is one Crazy Cajun, and I have a lot of respect for someone with the balls to bounce that deep
shite. I was happy for him when the Saint's kicked ass.
    Cheers, Don

I agree. Places that are filled with wrecks and reefs like florida and tropical waters can get depleted extremely easy by scuba spearfishermen and that ruins the harvest for other people and the next generation.

Yea man! Rok is bad-to-the-bone! And a great voice for spearfishermen and women's rights. He's going to Washington this month to right for our rights with the FRA.

Rok shot that alligata gar in about 20ft deep water. He is quite good at holding his breath freediving in the lake.

Edited once, last by Don Paul ().

What does he do with them?

Saves the duck populations ? Maybe crab fisherman can use them.
When I was a young kid Snow Birding if Florida those gator gar would scare the shit out of me when I fished from my inner tube boat.:@

yea that ditch was nasty and prolly had plenty of diseases invested in the water. but yea in the lake he can hold for over a 1:30. can cover some ground look for those big boys and cat daddys.

  • way to go on the gear, and screw it if that snorkel works for you then more power to you,.. you being happy and comfortable is the ultimate goal i think.. and despite my grudge that dan wont make me a custom suit i really think you ought to look into his as opposed to the mako. i own a mako suit and like it but dans are the bee's knees.

  • I was breaking Rok balls about a beautiful speargun he got from Wong, in the pic the engraving looked somewhat pinkish, so I told him that he was now in touch with his feminine side :D

The Rok retorted saying that " it ain´t pink is lung blood red" ..:laughing3:

    I'm a Speardiver, not a freediver

Indeed. I am big on SAFETY. Thanks for the words from the wise. I appreciate it and will definitely be posting some photos when we start hunting this season.

  • There were some changes made such as shape of the loading pad, length of knee and elbow protection, and termination of the edges, but the basic design is the same as the green suit. With a hood of course and waist high pants.
