The search effort is inder way. A few details of the incident...this was a freediver. His gun was found floating just behind the boat with the reel line cut. That is all I know.
Apparently the guy got in trouble at depth and cut the line...a search was made to no avail and then the Coast Guard was contacted.
I will not mention any names at this point. Please keep everyone involved in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks for all the sentiment guys.

It is with a heavy heart that I make this announcement. I just got confirmation that Bill Crawford's body was recovered from the ocean floor today...A loss of a true gentleman and Upper Gulf Coast freediving pioneer. You will be missed

Just heard the horrible news. :(:angry5::(
I'm honored to have had the opportunity to dive with such a great, yet extremely humble diver... further words escape me.
RIP Bill.
-
My condolences go out to his family.
RIP my fellow spearo.

I don't know what to say. I dove with Bill only twice, but I knew right away that he was special, and the sort of person that I will always try to be more like.
Godspeed Bill.
-
sorry to hear it. my condolences.

Huge thanks to Rafe, Rok, Vinny, Will, J. and Marcel. Please email me your contact information at cmorllc@cox.net - Bill's wife Cindy wants to contact each of you to express her gratitude. I can't thank you enough. You guys dropped everything, worked many hours getting gear ready and then made a 120 mile boat run and were on-scene within hours of my calling. Having you guys down there with me helped me greatly in getting through it. Everyone talking through the plan and then executing it in zero vis was amazing. I've been told that very few recoveries are made at that depth with no visibility. I know who I want in the fox hole with me if we ever have to go to battle.
As bad as running in with Bill's remains was, I can't imagine what facing his family would have been like if we hadn't been able to find him.
As requested by his family, I will put together and post an account of what happened.
At this time, his family has asked I gather any and all pictures of Bill. If you have pictures, please email them to me at cmorllc@cox.net - I need to put them together for them over the next day or two so that they can have them for the services.
Thanks to everyone who has called, sent texts, pm'ed, posted, etc. I don't have the right words, but I can say that it has helped.
Bill's friend,
Chad
