After years of trying I finally got my first 'but at 12lbs! Too bad rays aren't good eating since you couldn't go five feet without seeing a shovelnose, diamond, torpedo, thornback or angel shark. I realized yesterday that I've never had halibut before, not big on commercial fish, looking forward to trying it out tonight though
Also almost shot about 20 halibut shaped rocks...
Anyone got any recipes?

I've been catching and shooting flounder on the Gulf coast since I was a kid. They look just like your halibut, but usually top out around 5 or 6 lbs. Every time you guys post up a halibut pic, it makes me think what a heart attack I would have the first time I saw one in the water.

Very nice...I have a recipe you can try. Pecan crusted Hali, it's super easy.
1 cup pecans
1/2 cup brown sugarGrind pecans and brown sugar in a food processor or pound it out into almost a dust. Dip and pat that mix on the fillets and put on tin foil on a non greased baking pan. Bake for about 10 minutes but half way through, pour a spoonful of melted better on each fillet. The butter will carmelize on the sugar and pecans and it will be bomb. Don't overbook it! I hope you try it, it's really good.

Great! Congrats Miguel. Really nice fish to start with.... but not so big that you wont find bigger ones in the near future if you look.
Re Hali shaped rocks..LOL.... that happens to all of us. Theyre everywhere!
Re recipes...... great many ways..... pretty much anyway you'd cook a bass or rockfish..... ONLY BETTER! Try at least some very simply.... and then go from there.

Nice fish Miguel! Hali's aren't my favorite eating fish so I usually bake them in teriyaki sauce/ginger or else fry them for tacos. I'm sure halibut mike and ladvr have some great recipes.

I didn't measure it unfortunately, just threw it on the scale when I got home. These are the easiest things ever to fillet by the way!

way to go Miguel. they're awfully tasty but i've found it to be important not to over cook or under cook and timing them just right has been a bit tricky. wish i had more of a tip for ya. enjoy...that recipe looks awfully tasty.
