Hello. I am one of the older guys and have recently moved back to California from a more land locked state. I learned to dive in 1970, taught by one of my high school teachers. I have shot fish from Orcus Island, most of California's coastline and in the Sea of Cortez. Having been away from the coastline for fourteen years, I am seeking to replace my old inventory with current equipment and like what I see on this forum. The forum members here are knowledgable and provide a good deal of information pertaining to gun structure, and the art of spearfishing. I look forward to learning and contributing to the forum.

Welcome!:)

Thank you for the gracious reception. I like the avitar. I will most likely dive off of the St. Barbara coastline and the Channel Islands. I am dependent upon another diver if boating is required. My most recent aspiration is Sea Bass. There is much yet to learn about the technique.....

Thank you for the reception. My stories are aged and I feel it best to watch, listen, and learn before speaking. Curious how this mirrors my spearfishing technique.

You are in a great spot mate. I would befriend some local SB freedivers up there and just get back in the water. It will all come back fast, I would just go slow, relax and make sure your rig has a slip tip as it will hold better if the shot is not perfect and the fish runs.
Cheers, Don -
My thanks. Your's is sage advice. I evolved to slip tips after having a modest grouper off of Puertacitos, Mexico free itself of the (non-slip tip shaft) by thrashing around and rendering the shaft worthless. Thanks again.

Aged stories are always welcome.....:thumbsup2:

I need to purchase new gear. Any recomendations on guns and fins? I would like to pursue Sea Bass (as it pertains to guns). My shoe size is 12 EEE (as it pertains to fins). I welcome the input of those who have valuable experience.

Welcome to the forum.
Pursuit fins http://spearfishing.world/fins…arbon-fins-roll-call.html
Picasso footpockets are known for fitting wide feet.

LunkerBuster,
Thank you for the tip on Pursuit fins. From all that I read within this forum, I think it best to assure they fit my feet as a primary objective. I appreciate your perspective as a positive experience with Pursuit.

Can anyone tell me how I may address/respond to other forum member's posts. When I attempt to respond, an error message tells me that I do not have permission to respond. How does this work for new members? Is there a probation period?
