Antonie Berry extreme fishing in Gabon

  • Thanks for posting these videos. I guess if your idea of "extreme" is shooting a bunch of sharks and jewfish than you might like this video. I thought it was gay.

  • Does the sight of Antoine Berry in a speedo make you feel uncomfortable? Or are you using gay in some other colloquial sense?

Thanks for posting the vids Ramon, Extreme spearfishing in Gabon is a classic.

Just couldn't really find the right word to describe it. Not "gay" in the literal sense, perhaps "lame" would have been a better choice in adjectives? Even though I think you know exactly what I meant. ;)

  • Remember that we are a bilingual and international board. English is not a first language for many, and particularly in this case Ramon. For these guys your choice of words may be taken literally and would be construed as very impolite if not offensive.

By the same token I can say that bluewater spearfishing is lame, all the divers do is chum up the water and hang out until a fish shows up, then hang on to the line. But it is another valid facet of spearfishing. I think parts of this video are not a good example of stalking fish. But there's a lot of preparation that goes into what Antoine Berry does, and physical exertion, as well as risk. Not a lot of guys would be able to pull it off consistently, it's amazing he's still around. Consider that he didn't jump straight into shooting giant fish in the rigs, he went through a process of growth as a spearfisherman probably experiencing everything you and I have and more before doing what he does in the vid. I haven't seen the youtube clips but the narration of the actual video is good and Antoine provides some very interesting, you might say raw insights. This video is old and from a time that there weren't any around, although it's still very relevant today. For a lot of us just like Ramon said the images of it remained etched in our minds.

  • I have seen this many times, and I am impressed each time I view it. I live on the Northern Gulf of Mexico, and began diving on the oil rigs many years ago. Guys speared fish like this back then, but it was while using scuba. I freedive the rigs, and I can tell you that it takes a lot of physical ability and experience to take a large fish from the structure. Entanglement, barnicle encrusted steel, strong currents, and ever changing levels of visibility are only a few of the challenges encountered while diving on a platform. My hats off to anyone that can extract a Jewfish from this environment while freediving. That pelletier is also a cool piece of equipment. I have been thinking about purchasing one of the Maco2 spearguns. Thanks for posting the video.

  • Antonie is a animal in the water and out, I can't think of a more fit person in the sea then and now.
The fish he has speared in Gabon have fed many who had little or no food. These films were from a diffrent
    time and place.

  • M -KC Yo no he hecho el refrán, esta hecho hace ya muchos siglos, es un refrán Español que dice o explica lo siguiente:
''Las cosas se ven fáciles o bonitas, mirandose desde donde no hay peligro o dificultad’’

    <º)))))><

M- kc I have not done the saying, this made many centuries ago, is a Spanish proverb that says and explains:
''Things look easy or pretty, looking at where there is no danger or difficulty''

  • For many years Marc Antoine Berry was my hero. His only deffect was that he is french...

Now I can see things from another perspective, but in any case, my personal opinion is that we should be more open minded when we see different cultures and/or realities.

Just because the taste is like the ass; Everyone has one, and all are different. :)
