C4 or Carbon stingray or Speardiver C90

  • I currently own a pair of Gara professional LDs and are trying to decide if it is worth upgrading to carbon fins. If it is, I have narrowed my choices to the three options mentioned above . I will be spearing mostly in about 30-80 feet of water. Advise or suggestions are welcome.:thumbsup2:

  • I love my Speardiver C90 medium stiffness in H.dessault pockets. If you you look in the Speardiver Carbon fin thread there are many good reviews. My extra C4 mustangs went up for sale, I beach dive allot along with long swims and dives
    over 75' when needed.

The only things I hear about the C4 fins is how often they break and how expensive they are. Speardiver fin owners simply don't worry about their blades breaking, and can concentrate on diving and shooting fish. Yeah I'm bashing the competition, but this doesn't mean what I said isn't true. Here's a C4 fin that was brought to me when the owner switched to Speardiver carbon blades. It's cracked along the screw hole line.

I made the switch from Garas to the Speardiver and never looked back. You won't find a better built fin out there at any price.:toast:

  • I can tell you I used some Omer Stingray pockets in a tournament and my feet cramped soo bad I left my $500 fins on the boat. I will never ever buy those again....ever. C4 fins are great for freediving, I personally have not seen them used for spearfishing much. I use Speardiver C90 in Beuchat foot pockets and I just don't need anything else.

If having used the same fins for 7 years every weekend until you could see the carbon filaments coming apart for how weared they were and buying the newest model to use it for 3 years now with no problems is "breaking often", you're right about C4's, which by the way, I paid at "italian" price (their price in the USA is ridiculously expensive!). :rolleyes1:

This been said, today I would buy Pursuit fins because they are good fins at a reasonable price, Dan is a cool guy and he will honor your warranty localy. ;)

  • Marco, thanks for the good words.

Through the grapevine I know that many C4 fins get returned for warranty to one of the few local dive shops that carries them, having been broken. How many guys do you know that use C4 fins other than yourself? Our own monster slayer broke the C4 fins http://spearfishing.world/fins…fixing-carbon-blades.html

This is not to say that carbon fins from other manufacturers don't break. But C4s break consistently and this is well known.

  • JC,
You know my choice. Its really hard to beat the Speardiver & Pathos combo.

    - I have tried C4 flaps 30 with an OMER pocket and they were way too stiff.
    - I have tried C4 mustang VGRs 30 in that "shoe" footpocket and they were beautiful.
    - I would say the Speardiver combo is easily as good as the above
+ Dan has tons of sizes to try on.
+ You get a finer choice in blade stiffness. There are variances even between Medium, Medium stiff, Medium soft.
+ The fins weigh about 1/2. Imagine having to wear a shoe that was twice as heavy all day and go jogging.
    + Dan is almost Cuban.
