I just threw up in my mouth....

  • Camera sales at Beach City Scuba are about to go up.:rolleyes1: I may have to go back to church and pray more.

  • I saw this before in the SMCAs... The law for SMCA has never stated that you cannot take allowed species from tide pools, I think, but now it does.... Well the map says it.

Basically, if the law says this as well, couldn't they say that spearfishing and lobsterdiving from shore is illeagal? I mean when I dive for bugs 70% of them are found in, and very near to, the tide pools. SO... WTF?! Are we gonna find out Jan. 1 that infact we are screwed from CDM to Dana?

  • Tailsurfer I'm pretty sure the tidepool law states that they area areas that are only uncovered during the lowest minus tides but I'll have to look into it for sure. Certain areas of pv have always been protected from tidepool collection but you are allowed to catch bugs as long as they aren't in tidepools.

Budlight who makes this map? I'm surprised they jumped the gun and started selling these before January 1, unless they are trying to pull a Laguna and lie and say the enforcement has already started.

Remember there are SMR's where we pretty much can't do anything and then SMCA's which have varying laws of take. It's confusing as shit, but this is the most comprehensive site I've seen: MarineMap Decision Support Tool
Goto mpa's, arrays, and proposals and use the pull down menu to select "adopted mlpa and south coast mpa" and you'll get a ton of info.

I'm trying to work out a map with general points/landmarks for freedivers because otherwise it's impossible to tell the boundaries without having gps mapping on your boat. When I worked out the areas in pv I was pretty sick because one of the huge areas starts in marineland and works northward
    :(

  • Guys..... this really should not be a surprise to anyone...... unless you just came to CA and started fishing or diving in the last few weeks.

Who ever put the map together - I'll assume - was trying to help us... to know where we can fish..... Remember all of this was Scheduled to start Oct 1, 2011. Only because the OAL found problems was implementation delayed.... The real final vote on this.... happened last December!

Yes - we are screwed! Especially those of us in OC. (ie - all of the really good, best vis spearfishing areas will be closed..... Places Ive been spearing for 59 years!)...

Don, you bet.... WE should All be going to our fav churches in soon to be closed MPAs and taking up a collection!

(side note.... the great conditions of the past few days in Laguna went downhill quick this AM with bigger swell and on shore wind..... along with huge tide swing...... I just hope the wind switches to offshore and howls to clean things up).

    if you want more info
California Department of Fish & Game, Marine Life Protection Act, South Coast Study Region is a good place to start.
