Every now and then you see a pic that is just amazing...

That fish was caught on H&L.
-
Maybe it was a super angled shot
But really that fish is photoshopped to the max as far as the colors, wouldn't surprise me if they couldn't resist covering up the the spear hole. Or are you thinking the lines on the body are from the fishing line?
-
I dont think that diver and fish are in the same place lol. The amount of light on that fish doesnt match. Also a fish that size that was H&L caught would still have been brought aboard with a gaff. The way the mouth is open I would guess that, that fish was hooked and trying to spit the hook by shaking its head. The pic looks like it was taken while fighting the fish in the water and the diver was just added in the background. Still a cool looking pic
-
naw, you can easily brighten up only a certain object in an image. In this case it was done to bring out the colors of the fish, but it was overdone. Had the brightness been increased more subtly and a few other adjustments made instead, the fish would've looked better and more natural.

Hmm lots of speculation. I think I know the guy and I'll ask him why he didn't go for a meat shot in the Top loin rather than the shot he took which looks like it was just behind the Gill plate.. What pisses me off though is that they photoshopped the Logo on the Hood upsidedown.. Nice Mahi Mate.

The diver is Bret Vercoe. Yeah, that is line marks behind the mouth. Good job in noticing.
I liked the colors. I sure hope he didnt catch it with line and then pose with it!
I dont think there was too much photoshop work done to it. The water clarity is unbelievable. Makes for great photos. -
He is a very proficient diver as you can see...
Australia, btw.

Ok, just as a follow up, Bret responded to my message.

Hi Brett. I love that pic and posted it on a local forum because of the colors. The guys raised a few questions and I would like to address them. They were concerned that there is no hole in the fish, yet there are line marks originating at the mouth and leading back towards the tail like you see on hook and line caught fish.
Secondly, some guys said the colors were heavily photoshopped. I did not feel they were.
Please dont take offense. I just want to answer these questions.

Hi mate, the Dolphinfish was shot through the gill plate. We get them near the continental shelf between 15 and 30km offshore where the water is often 30 to 40 metre vis. No photoshop other than vibrance.Cheers,
Brett

I really don't care but I don't see a hole in the gill plate. Shooting through the gill and out the mouth doesn't leave a hole but it's very rare, and almost impossible with such a thin fish.
-
Hey, I figured I'd ask and clear it up. Nothin worse than a cheat. If it was a mediocre free diver, I would doubt it but this guy obviously has no reason to lie. Anyway, there it is. Draw your own conclusions.
-
The only hole I shot, the others do not see anything, too clean for animals so much about strength and endurance
-
Hummmm...
-
i dont know ramon...that hole is right on the lateral line and if it hit spine that fish would do the belly up dance.
-
Lunker I mean of all the photos, only this I see a sort of hole in the other photos do not see anything
It's just an observation -
That would be incredible to me that someone would be dumb enough to hook em and pose for a pic. Reminds me of that thread on SB where Pipin filmed himself poaching in the Bahamas and tried to pass it off as the Marquesas. He was selling freedive trips to the Marquesas and passed the footage off as Bahamas. Luckily there were many spearos that knew both areas and called him out on it. Anyone catch that shitstorm? LOL
Ramon, I do see your point. None of the fish show much if any marks from penetration and strugle. These are soft fleshed fish and more damage should be visible. Not sure what to make of it. Oh well, par for the course for this world we live in.

Bulit I've seen stranger things, like 90 years ago in a brand to make European the catalog materialsub bought fish in the market and then used
them to do poses Catalog of next year
I do not mean or belittling or create controversy, just my point of view. -
I saw the hole in the Gill Plate the first time I looked at the Photo. follow the shooting line scratches, they point to it.
I still don't understand why they photoshopped the Logo on the Hood Upside down though.
-
I see spear holes on many of the fish, but the damage inflicted seems minimal. Also in the first one the colors seem to be enhanced I cant imagine the light on his face being that bright.
-
the ring around the eye also looks suspect...
