    Hey everyone hows it going.I am a marine corps weapons instructor and I just decided to start spearfishing for the fun and exercise. I'm staring with a six foot pole spear and a floatline to hit the reef and kelp in la jolla,San Diego and surrounding areas.

    you will do well to start with a polespear..your hunting techniques will be better and your awareness heightened...when, and if, you do switch to a gun, life will be so easy

    Hey thanks guys for all the feedback. I am very interested in diving north county but have heard it is a visibility nightmare. But I'm still trying to piece together all my gear. Should take me another week or two. I look forward to picking all of your guys brains.

    Welcome Zach, I'm in the Navy and have gotten out a few times around here with a polespear. I'm in OB so if you want to hit the jetty or the kelp at Point Loma shoot me a PM, I should be able to get back in the water around the time you're ready to head out
