Thinking of building a deep water gun

  • I've hunted in the past with either a Mares shorty pneumatic or a pole spear. I want to upgrade, so to speak, to something that can go for the big ones, pelagics maybe.

I have a blank piece of South American hardwood that is very dense, has very tight growth rings and is quite true. It is 38 inches long by 2 & 1/4 square. I believe the wood is Jacaranda but will have to check.

Is this blank large enough for an open water gun?

    Thanks!

  • It's the total length of the stock. As I do more research on the subject the blue water guns do run longer. Is 5' to 6' the usual length of the big guns?

  • I'd say 65" minimum for a true blue water gun

    X2

A lot of blue water guys are getting away from the 72" cannons and going towards a more maneuverable 65". I have a 61" and it barely has the range that a true blue water gun should have.

You could turn that stock into a hybrid though....
