I decided that Sunday was going to be a great day to dive. I went out with less then 1 foot swells and about 15 feet of viz on the bottom. I tail grabbed a shovelnose for a little excitement and then let him swim off. I'm pretty sure I caught the tail of a WSB going into the kelp but as soon as I saw it it was gone. I also saw a short barracuda and a school of baby leopard sharks. I was also harassed by the local fur bags. Not to many fish out but I did find a few that wanted to hitch a ride to Pasadena for some AC and eventually a hot oil bath. Its been too long since I hit the water. Sorry for the non scenic cellphone pic but its all I have for the time being.
A few for the dinner table

I cant imagine what its like diving with seals and sea lions. Beautiful fish, sounds like an ideal cali day. is the bottom fish a female sheephead?
-
Yeah the bottom one is a female sheephead. The seals are a pain and scare the crap out of me when they sneek up on me. I have a hard time relaxing around them kills my bottom time. But they are interesting to see and for fat sausages are amazingly graceful underwater.

I have heard some species can get aggressive, whats the method for dealing with them if they get to be a nuisance or aggressive? Nice haul :thumbsup2:

Harbor seals usually follow me around for a while before leaving me alone. I usually just charge them and scream underwater at them. Doesn't always work since they are so curious. I had one swim on my back while abalone diving and another in Laguna swim in between my legs right on my decent. I have noticed that they like to nibble on my fins. They are sneaky curious creatures. I have only had one experience with a sea lion and it was while diving in Catalina on a deep ledge. It came around a rock and swam at my face and blew bubbles while doing a loop like a roller coaster then disappeared then came back and did it again but to my right side. It made my heart race since I never saw it coming. I didn't have much of a chance to swim at it and yell but it left me alone after it startled me twice.

When I see sheepshead I think they must taste like our hogfish, they are so similar. I dont hear people raving about them like they do hogfish, though. Thanks for the info on seals, interesting dynamic to you guys' diving situation

Great report. I figured that for a juvi sheep. Nice call on the female
