  • I don't know how much damage it will do to a white shark, but I'll wager it will at least scare it off and make it think twice about approaching divers again. Get yours if you haven't already Speardiver Quick Slip-on Powerhead

The best thing about having these in a ''special pocket'' is it gives you a wee bit of mental diversion if you have time to mount it and take on a defensive position, swimming into the shark eye to eye for shot placement. Just this act alone may send a message to the shark to swim a wider path or stalk another food stimuli. Walk a dark street carrying a large frame concealed hand gun with the hammer on the first click and make eye contact with a potential mugger, a un-drunk pro will keep walking and find a new victim as they can sense something is not right.

In the event that you detonate one on the gills, eye,or lateral line, the attacking/stalking shark will know you are not their normal prey for a few minutes, during this time you can get to the boat or out of the ''path of progress' sharkwise.

I and a few other blue water divers I know carry large caliber PCD devices that slip over the spearhead.
I have carried Dan's the last few years and no longer make my own.Like a hand gun, I dread the day I will rely on one, but love coming home to family.

Yes, regrettably I have powerheaded two sharks in 30 years, one tiger in French Poly and one large bull in the Sea of Cortez, both were drawn to bleeding/fighting fish on a dropoff. I don't know if the sharks died or healed. Sorry for that:( but I'm still here and would do it again if one was within 8 feet and the pecks were down.

  • Fantastic post my friend. You are so right.

I have a real goofy disposition most of the time. I like to laugh and be silly. However I have some intensity that will raise when confronted, when I lived in downtown Miami I use to walk my dogs at night, often around 1-2 am. I'd see a few people out who were up to know good and looking someone in the eyes and not being compelled to quickly look away SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF WOULD BE ASSAILANTS! I am one I the worst would be victims, dressed in gym shorts, 6'4" and looking pissed off with two 60lb dogs, but they would still be shopping for a victim. That attitude you describe has protected me above and below the water.

I have an Israeli cousin who is bat shit. He likes to tell the story about getting robbed in NyC, attempted to be robbed. A thug runs up on him and his wife with a .22 and sticks it into my cousins ribs. Hagi just grabbed the gun, jamming his finger behind the thug's so no trigger pull and levels the guy. Everyone says he's so stupid and why take the risk. His answer, in a thick accent," no one who knows to use a gun wants to be so close. He didn't know, so I took it from him. The man who points the gun from 20', I give him my wallet"

Dive safe guys. According to shark tracker, Mary is heading to Sofla also
